Where can I get something that will scan for viruses, and adware, and remove them? Im looking for something that people have actually tried because I've had bad luck with downloading so called "virus scanners" before. They either add viruses instead of getting rid of them, or they claim to be free, find 500000 viruses, and then tell me I need to pay them a bunch of money to get rid of them. So whats a legit site that'll find them, and remove them, for free, without adding viruses/adware to my computer??

First off you should never download Virus Scanners from the Internet especially if they come to you in a pop-up, in reality they are a virus in themself. A good Virus protection/scanner is Norton Anti-Virus... it is not free but its for real, you will be able to find it along with other real scanners at wal-mart, circut-city, or staples. as for Adware- there are different software that searches for different types of adware, I have not done very much research into this topic so I would not be able to tell you much more but if you go to the store to look at the virus protectors you may also ask about adware programs, they should be able to help you out especially at staples and circut-city

AVG is a good antivirus program, and they've just (yesterday) come out with a companion antispyware package. Both are available as free versions at http://www.grisoft.com

What happens is, you get a fully-operational trial version for 30 days, then the trial expires, and either you can purchase the full operational version (for a reasonable price) or you can keep the "limited function" freeware version running. The "limited function" is mostly that, you don't get automation: you have to run scans by hand (they're not scheduled) and you have to update your definitions by hand (they're not automatic).

Here are some programs for your consideration.

This is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources. It blocks spyware before it installs.
SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

AVG
Superantisyware
Avast
McAfee Security Center
Superantispyware
Spyware Terminator

Use only one anti virus and about 2-3 anti spywares. That should be enough protection.
