God formed Adam as being the first man. God then formed Eve but took a piece of Adam to make her. The procedures may be the same, that is, god creating both. The means by which god went about it is different and in some ways insulting. Hey ladies, god created Adam by his/her/its own hands. However, Eve could only be created out of something already created - Adam! Why did god not give the same honor he granted Adam to Eve? Why did god not create eve from the same "loving" or "caring" or "wondrous" hands. To me this is a little suspicious and as many well know, women have never been treated equally in Western culture. Could it have started because the biblical story of creation of man and woman is not an equal story? Think about it.

The reason for God making Eve was to give Adam a helper. Study Genesis and you will learn a whole lot. Ask God to reveal himself.

Well.... I've heard some women say that he made man from the dust of the earth... that's why men should be treated like the dirt they are!

I've also heard a man say.. Everyone knows that women are inferior to men because God made man first, and when he needed a partner he made Eve from a rib, one of your cheaper cuts.

Is that what you were looking for?

Seriously, I think he made man in his image, in the image of Jesus, and then took woman from his side because he had already created humankind and was not creating a new type of being, but was extending humankind to have male and female. He formed humankind from the dust of the earth showing that they were not related to any of the animals, and he breathed life into him indicating he had personal relationship with man and gave them his same spirit.

You are siding with the hebrew scribes who intended this story to MEAN that woman "owes" her life to the man for she was MADE from him.

And, the story is of a male dominated religion that from the very beginning made women look like inferior beings, of which ANY intelligent human being (doesn't take the intelligence of a God) would never BE in a creation of a loving, caring, compassionate CREATOR of the human race. That inferiority within this GOD is written throughout the hebrew religion and even Jesus himself mentioned it.

It means that Adam was made out of a solid piece of material (block of dust) but Eve had to be assembled.

Bad storytelling, and the lack of an editor. It is told twice, after all. Which one do you mean, the one where he formed Eve from Adam's rib (baby-back woman) or the one where he created them, male and female?

In the story, didn't he make adam out of dirt/dust, then when adam was made, he pulled out a rib and made it into eve?

so many believable characters in that tale. *sigh*

Eve was MADE from Adam. From his rib, and she was MADE for Adam, so that he would have company. Hints- "Flesh of my flesh, and blood of my blood."
