He's going to keep doing this as long as she's in heat. He will do the same for any other dog for miles around when she is in heat. Get him neutered and it will never be a problem again.
You should notify the owner of the female if you know who it is. If your dog is much bigger than her's she could have a huge problem on her hands as the pups maybe too big for her to whelp or even carry to term. Whatever the situation she needs to know she will probably be having puppies in about 63 days time.

Typically I dont eat after breeding either. I just go to sleep.
Dogs have a great sense of smell, and she is in heat. He's not hungry for food, but he wants seconds.

Why isn't he neutered? He will probably be off his feed now until she goes completely out of season. Did you alert the neighbor that their dog is probably pregnant? Take your boy in and have him neutered. He will live longer, be healthier, calmer, better pet and won't want to roam to find the females in season. A male can detect a female in season up to 2 miles away. Intact, there is the chance your dog will develop testicular cancer or prostate cancer.

My puppy is a very finicky eater as well. I've taken him to the vet and they have insisted nothing is wrong. He's extremely active, energetic and playful. The vet has assured me that he will eat when he wants, and not to worry. Puppies go through phases and he has started teething, so that could be a part of it. Try putting a little bit of hot water in his dog food to soften the kibble so that it is easier for him to chew.

My boys do the same thing when one of the girls is in season.
It's a real pain when I'm trying to get them ready for a show and then a girl comes in season and the boy loses weight and I end up showing a skinny dog.
The only thing that will stop it is having him neutered.

Nothing you can do until the neighbors dog is out of heat! That's the only way for him to get back to normal other than neutering him.
Sorry!

Neutering him will help this behavior., He got a taste of what it was like to breed to a female, now he wants more. He will continue though his life to want to find females in heat unless he is neutered. Neutering will also make him a better pet.

It has nothing to do with a traumatic experience, intact males WILL in fact do nothing if they can smell or know there is a female in estrus anywhere near them. They will not eat, drink, socialize, or think about anything else until her estrus cycle is complete.
Get him neutered.

Once the female dog becomes not in heat anymore, he will act normal.
I would suggest getting him neutered and your neighbors dog spayed. Did you tell your neighbor that they may have puppies soon?
At least your dog was in your yard. Irresponsible neighbors.
