"If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
John 3

Greetings!
Men wrote all that, Men enforce it, Men who put themselves above others.
We do not have to live in Fear of those Men, or obey their words. They are the pretenders.
Treat ALL Men as Brothers, ALL Women as Sisters, Love yourself, do the best you can. Then we cause our own outcome.
The Mystery is content to Abide.

the bible also says there is none righteous no not one.. according to the tradition of those days a person is considered righteous, if they obey the traditions of their religion, are faithful to their wives and do kind deeds... that's why David says all my righteousness is filthy rags...
the bible also says all have sinned.it's by grace are we saved thru faith... when you hear the good news and have faith on the truths you are saved. but the Lord is a God of mercy.. he's given conscience.. you need to act accordingly this is for those who have not heard the gospel- those who lived before time of Jesus.. peter in his letter says that the lord will come after everyone has heard the gospel.then you don't choose to obey is you choosing eternal death.. eternal separation from creator.

First of all eternal life is given to us as a free gift from God by us believing in Jesus Christ, that paid for our sin debt by dieing on the cross. He was not murdered on the cross as some like to believe, but God was fully in control, Jesus freely gave His life in exchange for our sins on the cross.
In anwering the question in more detail. If people do not accept what has been written in the Holy Bible from God, and will not become a follower of Christ, the Bible says that they will go to an eternal Hell; a place of fire. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23
You ask if it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the godly and the sinner? People can not do good deeds to be called or considered "good" or "godly" or "righteous" by God's standards. "As it is written: 'There is none righteous, no not one:'". Romans 3:10
Everyone that is born on this earth is a sinner from the start. Only one way to change that is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life and follow Him the rest of your Life. And we do not do good works to be saved, but we do good works because we have been saved.
Another word for gospel is "good news". So it is the good news of Jesus Christ. John 3 has some good verses that you picked out about the good news of Jesus Christ.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
"He personally carried the load of our sins in his own body when he died on the cross." 1Peter 2:24, TLB
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." John 1:12 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock, If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in." Revelation 3:20 "Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13

How do you know that these gospels come from god? Jesus has said that "you know the tree by it's fruits" . Whatever label you give to the tree is useless. What is the deciding factor is what fruits come out of the tree. If you go on a fact fiding mission nothing good has come out of these religions. What is the outcome? Crusades killings and destructions? If you label medicines on the bottle of poison is it going to be medicine?
What proof is there that these teachings have come from god? It could have come from devil also. What identy card system is there. Somebody comes and claims that he is from god. how can you be certain that he is not from devil? From the acts of his followers it seems the devil has sent him. "Judge by the fruits the tree bearth"
I think devil is creating all these religions. If it was god there need be only one religion. The god keeps helping man silently. He has given you discretion and intelligence. Use it.

"And, lo, the believers were decieved, and there was great confusion over the nothingness that is the afterlife." Bruce 9:27
See how that works? I can do it, too. I just write some stuff down and make it look official. Neato.

Righteous or wicked, our fates will all be the same -- either rot in a box, or roast in an oven.
