Yes, they are two different people. Mary was a very common name in the time when Jesus lived. There are several Marys mentioned in the Bible.

The best known is Mary, the wife of Joseph and the mother of Jesus. Unlike the other Marys, she is given no surname or title to distinquish her. She is simply "Mary". All others are given an additional identification.

Mary Magalene was a follower of Jesus mentioned in Luke 8. Her last name seems to come from the city of Magalene from where apparently she (or her family) came. The New Testament tells us that shortly before Jesus' death, Mary annointed his feet (a common practice) with a very expensive spice/perfume. She was criticized by Judas for doing it. He though the spice should have been sold and the money given to the poor. (The Bible then adds a note that he actually wanted it sold because he was stealing from the group's treasury). Mary Magalene was also the first person to whom Jesus spoke to at his tomb following his resurrection. The New Testament says nothing about a marriage, romance, or any other special relationship between her and Jesus.

The New Testament talks about a family in Bethany with whom Jesus was a close friend. He often stayed in their home when he was traveling in the area. There were two sisters named Mary and Martha, and a brother named Lazarus. Jesus would raise Lazarus from the dead after he died from an unknown illness. Their home would be the last place Jesus stayed before going to Jerusalem for the Last Supper and his arrest, trial and crucifixion.

The New Testament also refers to another Mary, who it states was the mother of James, Joses and Salome, who accompanied Mary Magalene to Jesus' tomb on the morning of his resurrection. No other information is given about her.

There is also a woman called Mary the wife of Cleophas who was with Mary, Mary's sister and Mary Magalene at the crucifixion. Many scholars believe she is the same as Mary the mother of James, Joses and Salome. Only mention of her in scripture.

In the book of Acts, we are told that the mother of John Mark (credited with writting the Gospel of Mark) was named Mary. Many scholars believe that it was in her home that Jesus and his disciples ate the Last Supper.

Finally there is a reference in Romans 16:16, where Paul is sending greetings to people he knew in the church at Rome, to a woman named Mary "who bestowed much labor on us." No other information is given about her.

So, as you can see, there are several marys listed in the New Testament.

Jesus' mom Mary was the daughter of Ann, of the house of David. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute whom Jesus saved from being stoned to death. They're two different people.

Mary, Jesus' mother and Mary Madeline are 2 different people. His mother was a virgin when she got pregnant with Jesus. Mary Madeline however was a prostitute, forgiven by God, then changed her ways. Both followed Jesus' throughout his teachings. And both where there at Calvary when Jesus was crucified.

Mary the mother of Jesus is one person.
Mary of the city of Magdalla is another.
Then there is also Mary the sister of Martha.

Mary was a very common name in those times because life under Rome was horrible for the Jews. Many called the names of their baby girls "Mary" because it means "bitterness" as a way to appeal to God to save them from their distress.

Yes. Many Mary's are in the bible.
Mary - Jesus's mother
Mary Magdalene - one of his followers & according to some sources possibly his wife.

Mary Magdalene was mistakenly referred to by Pope Gregory I in 591 as a prostitute. When it was another Mary (Mary of Bethany). She still gets a bad rap today as many homes for girls "of ill repute" are ferred to as Magdalene Houses.

yes they are 2 different people, the virgin mary was the mother of jesus, Mary Magdalene was possibly one of his disciples, certainly a follower anyway, and Dan Brown would have us believe she was his wife and the mother of his child
