At that age kittens often present with worms, which can cause the runny poop. Matter of fact...I recently fostered a 6 wk old kitten from the shelter, and he had the runs..poop all over his little back legs and just the biggest mess!. I gave him 1/2 a droncet (wormer) and per the vet's suggestion put him on a diet of only 1/4-1/2 tsp of live culture yogurt 3-4 times a day for 10 days.
Poor little thing lost weight and thought he was starving, but the runs cleared up and the worms are gone. During this time I kept him in a small dog cage with a little litter box in the back of it. He learned how to use the box and how to cover up after himself.
Today he's a healthy, happy little fella in his new home.
By the way...you often will not notice the worms even if they are present.
Also...be sure never to feed milk to your kitten.

It's almost defiantly the food. If you are feeding them wet food that could be the problem. 6 wks is a little to young to have them on straight dry food but you can buy then dry and mix it with some kitten formula. It will get them use to the dry food and you can slowly add less and less formula.

Sometimes it's just trial and error unfortunately. I have 3 cats and we had to go through 3 different brands of dry food before we found one that made the youngest one stop having runny poop. We found that the inexpensive food from the family dollar worked the best and all 3 of them love it.

Good luck!!

My Kitten Has Runny Poop

Kittens often have the runs, you need to do the following:
1. Check that he does have an appetite and he isn't throwing up. If he doesn't eat or throw up go to the vet.
2. De-worm him either way, he needs deworming every 2 weeks at this age. But use a dewormer that is Ok for his age.
3. Put him on a diet, with boiled chicken or Hill's i/d. Not too much food either. If after 2 days of i/d or boiled chicken he is still not better, call the vet, and ask what to do and if you could give him Flagyl (0,5 ml of the syrup). When he gets better, gradually introduce kitten food, preferably royal canin "kitten" or "baby cat". Sometimes diarrhea is the cause of a new food.

Most likely diet or parasites. Kitties should be eating solid to semi-solid food (no cow's milk) at this point.

Most common parasites in kittens: roundworks, hookworms, coccidia -- all these are easily treated by your vet, and 6 wks is not too young to deworm with dewormer from your vet

Just because you don't see worms doesn't mean the kitty doesn't have them!

A good check up at the vet is in order! Good luck

If this is a new kitten you have just got & brought into your home then yes, for the first couple of days this can be common as he is nervous & adjusting to a new environment. You must feed him little portions but regularly throughout the day..same times if possible too so he falls into a routine. Ensure he does eat & also carefully weigh him on any household scales & repeat every two days. It's essential he gains weight & is active, playful & alert. Excessive tiredness & loss of appetite spells trouble & a trip to the vets is key. Keep a close eye on him & if symptoms are not gone or improving by the 3rd day then seek medical help.

They may be too young to de-worm,.. since they're far too young to have been taken from the mom. (wormers is poison, it's enough to kill the worms, but usually not enough to harm the animal).
The kittens should have been with the mom till at least 8 wks. old, to get full immunity, nuturing, etc.
You don't have to see worms for the kitties to have them.
Usually only the heaviest invested animals expel them,... the worms are internal.
Take to vet, to get proper dosage for kittens that young.
Wouldn't want to O.D. them.

Also, what are you feeding them,,, they got sensitive tummy's at that age. Baby rice Pablum or cooked rice in their food should "bind" their stool.

It could be an assortment of things. Are you giving the kitten milk? If you are, discontinue immediately. Another could be that your kitten has worms. Your kitten is old enough to visit the vet for his first round of shots and a de-wormer.

Good luck with your new kitten!

It is probably the change of food. They shouldn't be reacting to milk yet, but older kittens cannot digest milk. Ask the vet whether you should be weaning them off to solid kitten food already. And do get them dewormed.
