If you just like someone else but not dating them, then yes, you should feel guilty for not taking him up on the date. Who's to say that other person would even give you the time of day? He hasn't reciprocated to ask you out, has he?

I'm not sure what you mean by explore options. You mean, if you had other options you wouldn't have dated him? If you needed options, then why did you say yes in the first place? I guess I don't generally date someone until something better comes along. I would suggest that you end it and don't waste his time and yours. And, even if you like someone else doesn't mean those feelings will be reciprocated.

you have the rest of your life to explore your options.. and there is no law against dating two people or more at the time.

it sounds like you don't want to be in a relationship. You shouldn't waste his time if you really want to be single. I'd say end it.
