In the article, Walters defended the aggravated second-degree battery counts most of those charged in the attack on Barker now face. He said Barker was "blindsided," knocked unconscious and kicked by at least six people, and would have faced "severe injury or death" had another student not intervened.
Schools Superintendent Ray Breithaupt also said in a news release Wednesday that the attack was no ordinary schoolyard fight.
"It was a premeditated ambush and attack by six students against one," the superintendent said. "The victim attacked was beaten and kicked into a state of bloody unconsciousness."

I don't care what the preceding events were. In most states of the Union including LA when you kick a person that is down on the ground in the head, your foot then turns into a deadly weapon. If it was premeditated by the attackers then they should be tried to the fullest extent of the law. I don't care what Jesse and Al say. The people that attacked that kid should be charged with attempted murder.

The school administrators should be held accountable. It is because of them that this whole thing escalated into the beating. An administrator was approached by black students who wanted to shade themselves under a tree that was understood to be occupied by white students. Before going any further, does anyone see a problem here?
It's alleged that the administrator simple responded by telling the black students it's OK for them to take up space under any tree. Anyone see a problem yet? Nice response huh with tensions rising!!! So the black students took that guidance and permission to take over the shade of a tree known to be occupied by whites. Anyone see a problem yet? The response by unknown persons was to attach nooses to the tree. Anyone see a problem yet?
All of us familiar with this story know what happened and everything that followed. Bottom line is the school administrators should be fired and that school system should closely scutinized. A crime is a crime no matter the circumstance. There is no justice in allowing any crfime to go unpunished but the law should be applied fairly.
My guess is those in the law arena decided to try to get a strangle hold on the situation by taking severe action against the known assailants thinking it might quell the tensions. They just went overboard.
The school is most at fault here but that doesn't justify letting go anyone by claiming race made me do it.

And Mychal Bell obviously took it a step further than the other 5. That's why he was the only one tried for attempted murder. I don't understand why people don't understand how these cases and defense attorneys work. They can get in front of the cameras and say anything about their clients and their cases; meanwhile the DA has to keep his mouth shut while the cases are still in court. So the general public only hears one side of the story. I would think that today, when we have an entire network dedicated to the court system, everyone would be more savvy to the public relations ploys of the defense attorneys.

I believe what the white kids were saying, is' if you sit under our tree again we will lynch you. Some people seem to still want to have bitter fruits hanging in southern trees. And some people still have a bitter taste in their mouth and an itching on their necks. To say that a noose hanging in a school yard was harmless is not so. There was fore-taught and an expected reaction in its making and display, wither it be fight, fear or flight. These kids need to learn that you cannot stomp out racism literally..

They always come up with some excuse, but these kids parents are the ones to blame for not teaching these thugs tolerence, and violence in any form is wrong. O.J. Simpson and people like him ,the so called row models have distroyed a whole generation of kids ,

They should be tried for the crimes they committed and receive a far trial and punishment that equals the crime. Just like the white kids involved in hanging the nooses, brandishing shotguns, etc, etc, etc should be.

Did they commmit a crime, certainly. However it was not attempted murder. The student was ale to attend a school function the night he received the beating.
The nooses were hung as a racist comment and if he had anything to do with placing them there he deserved the beating.
If anyone used the race card in this matter it would be the caucasion majority in Jena.

1 in order to attempt to murder it's not necessary to actually murder someone.
2 I for one am real curious what the reason for this attack was.
the reason before the media showed up.
Perhaps this is a you talked to my girlfriend crime or perhaps you took my parking place crime.
Will we ever know the truth now?
