no theory test needed. if the scooter is 50cc...and you have had your license since (ok im not sure i think its 1999) then no test needed, if you have recently passed your test you need to do the days training called CBT. If the scooter is 125cc (like mine) you def need to do the CBT. Its a days training, and if you arent up to scratch at the end of the day, they will just have you back antoher day until they are happy with you. the CBT lasts 2 years, unless you do your theory test and full bike test, in which case you dont have to re take the CBT ever again! I strongly suggest a CBT even if you are going to ride a 50cc, as they teach about how to be aware and safe on the bike (well mine did anyway!)happy riding :)

There is no such thing in traffic legislation as a scooter. If your machine is under 50cc and has a design speed not exceeding 50kph (approx. 31mph) it is classed as a moped. If it is between 51 and 125cc with a power output not exceeding 11kW (14.6bhp) it is a light motorcycle. Above 125cc / 11kW it is a motorcycle.
Assuming you are over 16 years old, you can legally drive a moped after passing CBT. If you are 17 years old or above you can legally ride a light motorcycle, after passing CBT. In both cases you must display L plates and cannot carry a passenger (or tow a trailer!)
You do not need to take a theory test unless you want to take a practical driving test to attain a full motorcycle licence.
There is an exemption from CBT for mopeds but if you have only held a licence for 4 years it does not apply to you.

If the scooter is under 50cc (moped) then no, you just need to do a CBT course.

If the scooter is between 50cc and 125cc, then yes, you will need to take a motorcycle theory test.

If the scooter is between 125cc and 650cc (the largest engine capacity scooters come in) and you are over 21, you can take a Direct Access Course.
