I have what I think is a trapped nerve in the lower left bottom of my back-it has been there since yesterday and started off as a low backache-now the pain is going down my left buttock and all down the back of my left leg as well.It is getting worse and I have been in tears and screaming with the pain-what can I do?I have taken pills, used a heat pad, sprays and had a bath-none have even touched the pain.

If it is real bad, go to the hospital - they can give you a shot of muscle relaxer/pain med to help with the immeadiate pain. Sounds like you need to get to Chiro to have that sciatic nerve unpinched.

I put up with this pain for almost a year in the end my back spasmed and i was taken off in an ambulance
I tried
Chiropractor (made it worse)
Cortisone injections (took 5 weeks to work and lasted only a week)
acupuncture (relieved the pain for about 3 days)
voltaren tablets (was told I should not have taken because I have a heart condition!)
in the end he only thing that worked was surgery
I had a discectomy where the disc is shaved to relieve the pressure of the nerve
PLEASE get your back seen to by a specialist have an M.R.I and see how bad the damage is with any luck you can get some proper medical help BEFORE it gets to the point that I was at .
IN the end I couldnt even go to the toilet without my husbands help and I spent 8 months sleeping in a chair. It was so bad that I even considered throwing myself off a bridge in the hope that I would just be unable to feel anything,I have friends who have suffered the same terrible back problems and the best advice I can give is DONT PUT OFF SEEING THE SPECIALIST or else you will end up like me and its not worth it
I must say since the surgery I have felt wonderful I am still very careful and very scared of hurting my back but I am so glad the ordeal is over.

Hang over the parallel if you have got one in your backyard, like a chimpanzee ( I only borrow this image to help you understand what I mean- sorry if I offended you)
That will extend (stretch) your backbone and relieve the compression on your sciatic nerve and lumbo-sacral nerve plexus!
By the way, there are other condition that could cause a horrible pain like that: when you have embolus or thrombosis of the femoral artery ( obstruction)
If the condition is getting worse, please go to consult an orthopedic doctor. You may need an operation of the vertebral bones to decompress the spinal nerve.
Here is a link for your references.
Good luck!

you need to see a chiropractor immediately. Only a chiropractor can stop your pain rapidly. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.
