Lots of reasons.
They usually center around
1) not a lot of time in our life. We're trying to do the most with every minute we have.
2) we are a very specific type of person who sees great value in knowing EXACTLY what we are looking for and are not interested in trying to find it via scattershot methods...(bars, sports, church groups-- whatever we are into)
3) We've realized that for us, it doesn't make sense "hoping" to find the right person. We are usually accomplishment/task orriented.
4) We are the type of person who values direct communication, with none of the hype/drama. We are telling others "this is what we want.. if you don't fit it... Please don't contanct us. (that doesn't mean you are not the world's greatest person, it just means you are probably not right for us. For those who ask, "How can you pass on the world's greeatest person just becuase of your needs or lists?..." The answer is... you MAY be the world's greatest person... but just not for us.

Same reason why women use Match.com or any other personal dating site. To find someone to date, love, and if possible to establish a marriage or other long-term relationship.
