Any program that runs in the background is using ram and will slow your computer down. It is usually better to go into the program and turn off background scans. This will mean that you must do your virus scans manually.

As for running two anti virus programs. This normally isn't a good idea. They tend to battle each other and can slow the system. In severe cases they can cause the computer to not run at all.

1.Because that most software has automatically function. When you go to the system they would automatically run in the background. So you always use the software is more convenient. But it will also cause unnecessary troubles. There is so much software when you start your PC that the speed will slow down and they can impact of your normal use.
2. There are some great disadvantages in the registry. Security of WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI that are the configuration procedures of the registry is not high and restricted by the size. That is, once your computer installed a lot of software, the registry was full, causing the speed of the system to slow. If you are a fan of net work, when you browse the network, hackers will change your registry and ultimately can control your computer or steal your important documents by making use of the character that the registry has low security.
Don’t worry, I can supply you several optimization software. Maybe you don’t think the optimization software can help you out of distress. But they are your right arms. They can clean temporary files and the registry and your privacy, increases your PC speed.Well adapted to computer users at different competence levels. You can click the website http://computer-optimize.com/ to find the satisfied software

It will definitely slow down your computer. What you can do is go into your maintenance settings in Mcafee and set it to run scans and updates in the middle of the night. Default settings make it run as soon as you boot up. PC will run slower while these scans are running.... P.S. Turn off all of the Windows Firewalls and protection and use only Mcafee.

Hi, MCAFEE isn't really a good software and yest it will make it slower. I suggest that u remove MCAFEE and keep Windows Defender. Also download these security tools, they are all free and the best out there:
AVG Anti virus: http://free.grisoft.com
Spybot: http://www.download.com
Comodo Firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com
Good Luck and take care!

yes mcafee does retard the computer speed. You can use Quick heal as antivirus......really a good antivirus software.....actually the theory is as many programs you install and uninstall, the record is writtren in the registry and the more the registry is filled, the computer goes slower
