Reputable tattoo artists do not tattoo pregnant women.
Smart women do not seek tattoos while pregnant.
Even if you ask your doctor, if they say yes it is because they are not thinking about (while remote) the possibility of acquiring a bloodborne disease like hepatitis.

Actually like many of you I always thought that you could not get a tattoo while pregnant. But I have recently read up on it, and yes there is a very very small risk of infection, but if you personally know the tattoo artist and thier facility you will be ok. there is just a list of duites the artist should follow befor they begin which is all the same things they should do befor tattooing someone anyway. And if they do not follow these procedures on a daily basis the Shop should not be opne because it would not be safe for anyone. The only major risk is basically if it is something you want to do, wait unitl after the first 12 weeks. I am considering it and I am in my third Trimester at this point your baby is fully developed so everything should be ok.. I went to the American Pregnancy Association to look up this information and it was very helpfull. I would definitely give it lots of consideration befor jumping into make sure you know the shop and the artist well, and defnitely make sure the artist will want to participate in thie event with and for you, it is very possible that no one may want to just for thier own protection... Go to APA and read up on it for yourself, only you and the artist can ultimatliy make the decision yourself.

Many tattoo shops won't tattoo or pierce you if you're pregnant or breast-feeding. Because there is a risk of infection, it's not recommended. Also, your body is not functioning normally when you are pregnant/breast-feeding and so you may not be able to heal your tattoo properly, or you may pass-out or go into shock.
Just wait it out. Then you can get a tattoo of your baby's foot or hand prints!

I have tattoos and I have two kids but I did not get any tattoos while I was pregnant. Why would you even want to do anything that there was even a small chance that could harm your baby for life?

A tattoo artist will not willingly tattoo you if you are pregnant. Just in case of an infection. It can harm both you and the baby. Your best bet is to wait until after you have your baby and are done breastfeeding.

you CAN do anything while pregnant but just because you can doesn't mean you should. you CAN get drunk, you CAN do illicit drugs and you CAN get a tattoo. but any time you get a tattoo you potentially expose yourself to staph infection or other things like hepatitis. (you can never be 100% sure that you won't have some complications) not that it happens very often but it is possible and you would then be exposing your baby to that as well. it is just safer to wait until you are no longer pregnant or breastfeeding (if you will be doing so).

if you already have it and you have become pregnant..its ok it might stretch depending on where it is, but i wouldn't recommend getting one while your pregnant, and i dont think the tattoo artist will do a tattoo on someone while their pregnant..if your thinking about getting one i would wait till after the baby.

No.
It is one of the main points on the waiver. It is not safe for your baby if something went wrong and you got an infection or hepatitis. Same thing with dying your hair or getting your nails done. You have to wait to give birth first.
The added adrenaline during the process is also dangerous to the fetus.

As far as I know, as long as you go to a reputable place, it is safe. HOWEVER most places will not do it because of the risk of something going wrong. If any sort of infection happens, it will effect the baby. Also, if the ink gets into your bloodstream, that can also harm the baby.
I wouldn't do it.
