Ray Charles did it to religious songs...would religious people dare do it to regular songs? There is a lot of badly sexual songs that I really like the beat to (really soothing and relaxing, or more up beat and motivational) but the lyrics are sooo sexual it makes me blush to even think. For my own personal enjoyment, if I changed the lyrics, would I still be considered sinful because of it being a worldly song? I would really like religious people to weigh in on this one.

yes of course you can. as a parent, i'm pretty strict. my kids liked some music they heard, but the lyrics weren't appropriate, so i managed to find some "kids" versions on cd's. all the same songs, but sung by kids with the bad words substituted for good ones!!!

i hope you don't mind me answering even though i'm a witch : )

I'm sorry your religion devalues the sexual so much. I'm sorry that you can't see the beauty in sex, and that you think it sinful.

I'm sure though that if you changed the words to songs that you considered "sinful" and replaced them with "religious" ones, that your mind would still be led to the original thoughts and feelings expressed in the song. Too, doing so would violate the composer's copyright. It is considered plagiarism.

If you want songs that express a particular mood, why not write them?

I have 2 daughters and I think Pink's songs have such great messages for girls, but the language is terrible. I have decided to let them listen to it because the great messages outweigh the bad language in my opinion. (We do discuss why you should not use bad language. Maybe that makes me a hypocrit) I am a Chrisitan and I believe that you have to LIVE in the world and associate with all kinds of people the way Jesus did. To me, they are just words.

It would be considered copyright infringement. As long as you either a) don't record your new lyrics or b) seek the copyright holders' permission and properly compensate them for their art, then it's fine. "Sin" is in your head. If listening to this music as it was written is something you think is bad, then by all means, don't do it. If you feel better changing the lyrics so you can enjoy the music, then do so.

be proud of your sexuality... but I understand... I hate lewd language and content. When the sexuality of glorified as a magical act, then I find it ok... but there is far too much perversion everywhere.

One of the most famous Christian hyms was origianlly a bar song......Amazing Grace. Go for it. If you can clean up and renew something worldly, more power to you.

So instead of T -Payne's "Bartender" you could rename it "Preacher" because they are both getting people drunk. One gets you drunk with alcohol and the other gets you drunk with the holy spirit! Or Madonna's " Like a Virgin" song can be changed to " I'm a virgin"! That sounds neat!
