the first poster hit the nail on the head.
Cats in the wild are almost exclusively solitary hunters. Wild cats are typically big and strong enough that they can afford the luxury of hunting alone. Even while mating, the female cat will typically chase the male cat away once they are finished, running him literally off her back.
Dogs, by contrast, are pack animals. Dog packs usually designate an alpha male, and the rest have no problems being his sycophants, unless one has the position of alpha male in mind. Some wolf species designate a beta male, and the beta male is answerable to the alpha male, to the point where he will not protest if another dog in the pack usurps the alpha male! In the wild, dogs are typically more diminutive than other predators, so they must band together to hunt for food.
These feral instincts carry over into our pets. Cats tend to be individualists. Even if they recognize you as their owner, their tendency is still to be self-reliant. Dogs, by contrast, recognize you as the alpha male/leader, thus are far more likely to obey your every word without question.

Cats and canines can and do get alongside while presented at a youthful age. the themes which you're experiencing now are very basic and organic, that new canines is invading your cats section. The canines is new, with new scents and techniques and is no longer properly-known on your cat. you need to aim introducing them on some events, by way of heady scent first and then head to head. Be tender and be careful. sometimes animals purely wont get alongside and might't be mutually in any respect.

Cats are in nature solitary hunters with a few exceptions like lions and cheetah brothers. So they don't have to cooperate and obey a leader, but depend on themselves. Dogs come from wolves which are in a pack and have a leader and have to obey them.

Dogs are pack animals and have a "top dog" which should be the owner. Cats are solitary creatures and "need" no one. The are very independant yet loving. I loved my dog and I miss her. I love my cats (2) and my cockatiels (2) =)

Blame ancient Egypt. They worshipped cats and treated them like royalty so naturally thats how all cats act now. Dogs were treated more like workers and best companions. Dogs are natural people pleasers while cats seek their own pleasure.

Oh, yes. There is a pecking order at my house. I find that the "top dog" is a breeding female cat who is full of hormones. She beats out the dogs for top spot.

I think yes. My oldest girl was clearly the self-proclaimed queen, and the oldest boy was the self-proclaimed king. They wouldn't allow the others to mess with them and they got top spots in the bed.
