"If you can't strike oil in ten minutes please stop boring me?"

Like some of you who have answered this I am a regular church attending Christian. The church I go to has a high standard of well researched sermons but I find that I hear about two each year which grip me on the "I never thought of that" or "Good heavens that fits me and I don't like it"

Some can preach, some cannot.
I have been on both sides of the pulpit, and I can generally tell how the sermon is going- whether or not the needed preparation has been done.
Often, the sermons are good, but excessive wording can BOG it down badly.
We must take into account also, that the attention spans of people are not what they used to be, especially when they've been watching fast moving television programming for years. People nowadays tend to want things handed to them in smaller bites.(if I may use that term)

I agree. Most sermons are boring. In the sermons from many pulpits of today there is not that divine manifestation which awakens the conscience and brings life to the soul. The hearers can not say, "Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the scriptures?" Luke 24:32.

i guess is a temptation from satan..

i have the temptation from satan to say..why do I have to pray all the time...?but the merciful God reminds me that i am just a man and He is God..and there is a big difference..and i must understand it otherwise i could fall in the same sin like satan who wanted a glory equal to the glory of God...or something like this..as i heard..

so i am happy when i am able to stay down on my knees and pray..

I heard a woman saying that a shamefull word appears into her head whe she says ''Our heavenly father'' i also had something like this..

i bought a book written by a greek priest i guess.who said that the people when become believers ..are tempted by satan..they start to pray and satan comes and makes noise...and things like this..trying to make them quit prayer..

thinkinmg about something else is a common temptation when we are at church...

thinking about sex when we are at church is not common temptation i guess..the man has a big fight if he has thoughts from satan about sex,,,while he is inside the church..

when i was younger and prayed rarely i didn't have temptations but when i started to go on the way to God even the priest told me satan will be furious..and will try to do things against me..

once i was in the street with the most beautifull cross at my neck...and satan made me feel very ridiculous having that cross at my neck..but i didn't gave up..and the feeling dissapered..

God is great, merciful and the only wise...He won't let his servants to be ashamed by devil ...even if you want to shout...you think of God...and pray...

There are so many people who hurt other that ..if we were on an isle we all would cry and shout and beg God..to come and give righteousness....we would invoke God in a loud voice shouting....

Even king David said that he has shouted to God...!To show His righteousness...but King David was a king...and there were no psichologists in his times...

I haven't been in a church in years. But when I DID go to church, most times I would just stare off into space and think about sex. What is it about church that makes you think about sex all the time?

No. I just turn my brain off and look at the ceiling, my watch, the prayerbook. Anything. Sermons are boring.

I have shouted a few times. I tend to get blessed and cry with tears of joy. There has been times where I wanted to get up and run a few laps.

Yep-especially when it's one where every point has to start with the same letter and you can tell they did some real fishing to make it work that way.

My father and I (much to my mother's embarrassment) would use it as an opportunity to take a nap.

I commonly have wanted to tell him that what he was saying was wrong, and he was displaying it as Truth... witness the holocaust.
