UK laws do not apply to US laws.

The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution is still in debate as to whether it was ever legally ratified - as a result, may be unconstitutional.

The 14th Amendment was also written about slaves because our country once sold people - this was to allow slaves to be citizens after they were brought to the US for purchase - really awful!, but it is history.

We no longer have slavery in our country, so maybe there is no need for the 14th Amendment?

VERY good question. I like the info too.

Unfortunately, Bush also wants amnesty. The people who want amnesty are looking to stay in power only. They believe, by giving illegals amnesty, they will gain more votes in their favor and stay in power. Democrats, especially, are not looking out for the good of our own people.

We DO need to protect this nation from the invasion from Mexico. Mexico and it's people have openly stated it's an invasion and they plan on taking back this land without firing a shot.

Thomas M - again, that is refering to 'legal' immagration. Even then, there were laws and rules governing who could become a citizen. People from other countries were not allowed to just enter the country in mass. I believe we went to war against the French for a similar reason. The difference with Mexicans is, they are not doing it with a military.

I think it's their way of creating a new Democrat voting base... I also have an observation. In July, Obama is on record of saying there are 47 million uninsured in America. Last night, there were only 30 million uninsured. What happened to the 17 million? I think they are exaggerating the uninsured numbers.. It's probably closer to 10-15 million, with 4 million choosing not to buy insurance.

About 12 million new Democratic voters.

Big business also wants illegals because of the low wages.

We have always allowed immigration within certain limits. The laws that currently are on the books have to be enforced. We just can't allow anybody to get into the country without knowing exactly who they are and why they are here. We have at least 12 million folks in this country that came here illegally and we have no clue who they are.

It's closer to 90% of Americans who don't want any type of "amnesty."
After she voted for the Bush/McCain/Kennedy "amnesty" this is one vote that Hillary won't be getting.
And if she wins the primary and runs against Romney for president I'll vote for Romney.
So much for Democrats being "for" amnesty for illegals!
That one vote alone will lose the election for Hillary!
And half of my friends are Democrats and *none* of them are for any type of amnesty!
I don't know where this "Democrats are for amnesty" stuff comes from!
Perhaps the Democratic "elite" should poll *Union Teamsters* and let us see the results of that! (98% against?)
If a foreign diplomat and his wife are posted to Washington and they have a child while they're here, that child is not granted U.S. Citizenship.
It assumes the citizenship of it's parents home country.
I don't know why some people think that the children of illegal aliens are "U.S. Citizens".
Just because they're born in this country after their parents sneak into the country illegally?
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was written in 1868 to give "full citizenship" to freed slaves after the civil war who until 1868 were considered "3/5's of a person."
I don't know how it's been misconstrued by some to think it would give any benefit to people who sneak into the country.
Obviously that wasn't the intent of the Congress when they wrote that amendment.
Anyone who thinks that any type of "amnesty" will help any candidate get elected only has to look at McCain's campaign after all his jibberish on amnesty.
His new campaign slogan; "An Army of one."

The REALLY weird thing is that I looked up this bill by the number HB 1100 and it was about "Requiring Background Checks for Health care Providers". Was this bit about the driver's licenses a rider?

Personally, I think BOTH parties absolutely stink on this issue, for the most part.

The Democrats want votes. They figure that Hispanics will vote for Democrats. If you can't find enough minority groups to get you elected every time, then import one or two. Remember the Democrat candidate in CA that told the illegal immigrant that he could still vote?

Unfortunately a lot of dumb republicans have joined this by claiming that we need them here, and/or they would be too hard to deport. There is a simple plan to have them self deport, but the basics of it are HARSH punishment for employing them, and absolutely no entitlements for them, and a drop dead date where if you are caught here, you are immediately deported and can never legally immigrate. This would have people self-deporting because they have no benefit in being here.

As for the politicians, I am glad that the House seems to understand that if 80%+ of Americans do not want Amnesty, their careers are at stake if it passes in any form.

Thomas...you are full of it.
