I just recently helped my teenage son plan his 'round the world trip' It was a school project but had to be REAL itinerary etc.

I spent a month on it with him researching ideas.
The best one I came across was 'One World' - http://www.oneworld.com

AMAZING program!!!! It lets you book where you want - gives you the options of times/airlines etc. at the end of your planning you can get a price – book online – change flights etc….. heaps of options.

For our 'trip' it was Australia – USA (4 states) – Canada (Toronto to Quebec) - London - Paris - Switzerland – Italy - Austria -Germany – Tokyo and back to Australia.

example - 4 Continents $3,200

So that's pretty cheap for round the world... then if you work out accommodation eg) if you are into backpackers $25 per night then a budget can be worked out.

Depending on how long you are travelling for sometimes it is best just to book accommodation for the first couple of nights at each destination.

However, if you're just travelling for a few weeks then having a structured itinerary booked up in advance can help save time and stress when time is valuable.

Not all travel agents have access to all hotels so you could book a combination of hotels from different websites if necessary.

once you're even remotely drawn to going to Russia, it is maximum suitable in case you initiate off looking into getting a visa waaaay basically before time - Russia is infamous for issuing visas late, or in no way.
