Yes, such a thing does exist. They are mostly used in commercial buildings, especially a lot of bathrooms now. They can really save a business money, but I don't know how well they would work in a home. I guess that would be a personal preference. The thing with motion switches are they are set on a timer. Once they come on, they don't go off for a preset amount of time. That could possibly mean that after you leave a room the light would stay on for awhile longer. This would actually cost you more money than if you just turned the light off when you leave the room. Also, if you are very still for awhile the switch will turn off and you have to move to make it turn back on. This would be annoying in a home, at least for me.
Hope this helps.

If there are several people in a room and one leaves passing the sensor then someone else would have to trigger the sensor to put the light back on.

they exist. you can buy them at your local hardware or home improvement store. most people would prefer to use the switches they have rather than pay for new switches with sensors. the sensors are commonly used in conference rooms at offices, and in bathrooms in restaurants.

They do exist, but require integrated wiring onto control panels, which inevitably be expensive. They rely on PIR (passive infra-red) detector that senses body heat and movement within a room and relays a signal to a control box accordingly to switch lights on or off.
Maybe someday when the system becomes more common place in private residences the cost wouldn't be so prohibitive.

well its ok, but what if your sat still on the sofa and need the light on for something and they go off. you would have to keep moving to turn em back on.
most annoying when you are comfy.
plus use tend to use more electricty when lights are turned on and off so its better to leave em on if you know you are going to be going in and out of the room
