Go to a deli, like Katz's on E. Houston St., or Carnegie Deli on 7th Ave. & 55th St. Order a pastrami sandwich at either place. Yummmmmmm!

Well, you will certainly get the NY feel at the Carnegie Deli. You will get the best Deli and you will pay top dollar. If you do decide to go there remember, CASH ONLY.
For a goof there's Ellen's Stardust Cafe on B;way and about 52nd ST. Don't know if it's true NY, but it's fun, you get food and entertainment. It's a diner, big menu and wonderful atmosphere, a train runs around the top of the place, remember no reservations and it's pretty crowded.
Chinatown and Little Italy will give you a feel of NY, but then most cities have their own versions. Ours is a bit bigger, and you have a lot of choices, just go to any restaurant that looks crowded and you know you'll get a good meal. For a bit of a feel of NY there's Katz's deli, which was used in "When Harry met Sally". The food is ok, but not one of my favorites.
If you have the time, head to brooklyn to Juniors, the best Cheescake in the world. You can go by subway, or of course splurge and take a cab if you don't feel comfortable.
Also for deserts, Veneros, east village, can't be beat for the best Italian desserts. Um, I can taste them now.
John's Pizza, the original one on Bleeker street is a must, they don't sell piecs, only a whole pie, but you can get a fairly small one and it's easy to make your way through that.
You should just take a walk through Zabars, 80th and B;way. You don't have to buy anything, but just get a feel of what we go through when we go shopping for real good food, you might have a nervous breakdown after too long in the place, but it's an experience.
Take a trip down to the Meat Market area. There is one Good restaurant Pastis, but for more than food, go at night and go to the bar at the top of the Gansvoort Hotel, one hell of a view of the city. Totally worth it.

Wow, there are so many! I like a place called The Potbellied Stove. They serve diner-type food and some dishes have a different spin on them. The prices are good, too. It's in the village. It's a good place to go for brunch.
