I believe in God and I believe in Christ, however I have noticed something among Christians that really bothers me. I know that people sometimes come to faith by being convicted of their sins or a strong belief that God is real and that the Bible seems to be right, but often I hear short and flippant answers when Christians talk to nonchristians. Its like so few seem to really research stuff and whatever answer works for the Has to work for whoever they are talking to. Also, I've noticed that someone might have a list of alleged discrepancies in the Koran and Christians say, "here here!!", but a similar list for the Bible comes up and they don't take it seriously. Its like, they come up with a quick answer but are afraid to really think it out.. I still believe, but I lose a little hope when it seems that Christians can be afraid to rigorously investigate things. Can't u have faith and not be afraid of anything man might come up with? An answer to any of these questions is cool.

Good question. As an atheist, I will say that religion tends to discourage objective thought, not actively as in "Don't think for yourself" but indirectly and most likely unintentionally. The idea that things that you don't understand should just be taken by faith is probably the largest contributing factor. The next largest is that believers tend to accept what their leaders teach them with very little questions, the thought being "He's (she's) a godly person, of course they will speak for god". Note this doesn't mean that the leader(s) is intentionally lying or trying to mislead people, just that like all of us they may not have the facts or just made an assumption.

Do you really think those people know God in their hearts, or are they the kind of Christians who say they're Christians and do everything the bible says, even the parts that contradict eachother and fall apart under any sort of critical thinking. The ones who do not follow the message of acceptance and tolerance and peace preached by Jesus, and who don't understand a message as simple as "The kingdom of heaven is within." (It means Meditate. If you really want to know God, that's how you do it.)

Bigotry and ignorance are very dangerous things. It is a shame that Christ's teachings have been so watered down and misinterpreted over the last 2000 years.
(I always wonder why the bible has nothing to say about him between ages of 12-30 and no Christian has ever been able to give me an answer.)

It's ok for you to be the light and the way, and to believe in Christ. It doesn't mean you have to be a Christian. Make sense?

Yeah, I agree and I don't believe in the book..
Although I don't believe, I try to be respectful of others questions and I've noticed that several people in here, go for the cheap shot.
Some that call themselves Christians seem to know little or nothing about the faith they pretend to be.. again I say some not all... but it's the few that answer with such things as "you're going to hell for that" proves open disrespect for the person they are speaking to.. this doesn't seem to be in line with the faith they proclaim to be representing.

again, great question

I choose the peaceful path, not the Christian path

Honestly, that is one of the major reasons that a lot of non-Christians are the way they are. I know that I believe in a higher power, but with so many contradictions in the Bible, and no one able to give straight answers, it's hard for me to believe anything they say.

A lot of people have blind faith. While people say that this means they have faith in something without seeing it, I choose to believe it means they have faith without knowing more ABOUT what they are believing in.

Majority of the Christians that can't give you a straight answers are ones that have been going to church since they were children, and their knowledge begins and ends at the church door. The ones that have found Christianity later in life are the ones that can actually give you answers and don't use circular reasoning or "the bible says so" for every answer.

Honey, thats what Christians do. Not all but most. Its incredibly aggravating that they try to claim they have answers but yet really don't know anything about the subject they're trying to refute.

All I can say is that I think its personal blindness. Remember, one of the first things in the bible is that a woman eats from the tree of knowledge against the Christian gods wishes. By that, we can see that knowledge is the enemy. So they aren't willing to research (I've seen people say that they don't want to read anything that might make them doubt god. Including a science textbook) because knowledge goes against the bible, and its actually work to obtain.

Most people are willing to just let someone else do their thinking for them.

Sadly most of Christianity is in apostasy. I mean people believe in christ, but they dont follow Him. And the scriptures are clear that even the devils believe Him. More is needed.

An understanding of the truth. A life dedicated to Christ. Revelation from on High.

Some things are so obvious, they do not need to be researched. There are times when I do some research.
It depends entirely upon what it is.
Why lose hope? Let your hope rest only in Jesus, not in any human being.
