Its a locally owned, contractor. He does his own payroll, or he writes out the checks anyway. and he did not furnish any paper work still to date. It has not been quite 90 days yet.

You should have been given a W4 when you started
working. He/she was responsible to give it to you to fill out.
If you are not provided a payslip, I would question the payroll department or owner, who ever is making out your check.
They could be not taking anything out, and at the end of the year give you a 1099.......wow, you will have to pay the taxes yourself then, since none was taken out.
Really, check it out.
You mentioned by law........nothing you can check out by law right now, UNTIL you find out how the employer is paying you.
under the table........mmmm. that is a no no....caught, you both will be in alot of trouble.
If he/she is going to issue a 1099, that is legal....altho you should have been informed.
You must ask who ever is making your check out, if they are withholding taxes.etc.
You must know how much you make an hour....just multiply that with how many hours you worked......does it come out properly......then nothing has been withheld.
If not......money missing, find out what they did with it.

You should have received (from your employer) a W-4 to fill out when you started work. If you didn't, ask him about it.

Is he taking taxes out of your pay? It almost sounds like he's paying you "under the table" which is illegal. It he IS taking out taxes, you definitely have the right to a detailed list of what the deductions are with each paycheck. Ask him about that too.

If you are an independent contractor, he should have had you fill out a W-9 instead of a W-4, but that too should have been done before you started work. If you work on HIS schedule, under his or a delegee's direction, then you are NOT an independent contractor. If he just subcontracts jobs to you and you set the schedule and the work rules, then it might be legal for him to classify you as independent - then he wouldn't withhold any taxes, you'd be responsible for paying them on schedule.

Your employer should give you a blank w-4 form to fill out before your first pay check and you should get a pay stub every payperiod. Contact someone in the payroll department or accountinfg office and tell them that you need one every pay period.
