It seems that those who beleive in government redistribution of income are the least likely to dig into their own wallets to help others.

Interesting isn't it! Those who claim to want to help people can only find a way to help through the government with other peoples money! When it comes to a little self sacrifice these people are nowhere to be found.
I watched 20/20 a few weeks ago and this same question was posed on a global scale. They found that the US is the most giving of all countries. Not only is our government more giving but our people give many times more that our government. Countries like France, Britain and Canada who have more social programs still give dramatically less as a government and a people.
The ideals you here from people are even more interesting when you put it into perspective with news like this!

Republicans by a wide margin. I think Al Gore gave $236 in charitible contributions when he was Vice President. He made about 8 million or so. The Democrats will give a painting or some vase and take the value as a deduction. The Republicans give cash. Of course, this is generally speaking. I'm sure there are some generous Democrats. I just don't know of any.

I have seen SEVERAL reports over the last decade or so that Conservatives are far more generous than Liberals in giving to charities.
It is true that a lot of that charity goes to Church sponsored benevolent activities. There is good reason for that.
If a church you work with is giving your money away, you have at least SOME control or ability to at least monitor where your money is being spent. Much less is lost to Government corruption and fraud.
Conservatives BELIEVE in charity.
they don't believe in in overly powerful corrupt politicians!

I think the difference is that the Republicans are going to make damn sure that their charitable contributions are a tax write off. These are the ones used to gather these kinds of stats, so naturally they show up as giving more. I don't feel the need to trumpet the fact that I give to charity. That is something I learned at church.

Charity has nothing to do with ones Politics..
i Dem would give freely to a charity he supports and so would a Republican
the difference comes into play when the GOVERNMENT is trying to TAKE more money out of the wallets of people.. The Left agrees and the right doesn't but that has nothing to do with charity!

Republicans. Red states are much more charitable.
The thing is Democrats try to appear charitable but look at any program or policy they support. It doesnt help people. its just designed to look like it helps people. Most of the time it ends up hurting them. And they are really good at giving away other peoples money.
Republicans on the other hand actually address the problems and try to support real solutions rather than ones that look nice. Of course this opens them up for being accused to be uncharitable because they dont support the policies that make them look compassionate.
Its not a hard and fast rule, but its generally what Ive seen.

Already knew it. Also, whenever a wealthy liberal makes a donation to charity, they call a press conference as if to say "Look at me, look, I'm giving money to charity" rather than give it annonymously and give for the sake of the good it will do, not the attention you can get for yourself.

Neither. What's charitable to about Bush wanting to redistribute American jobs to Mexico or it's immigrants? What's charitable about Republicans who are wanting to cut social security benefits because the government has already spent the fund? What's charitable about Republicans who want the H-1b visa to get cheaper labor from other countries for hi-tech jobs?
I am a Republican and I suggest that others with Republican elected officials check to see what they are supporting that effects jobs and read about Americans who are losing jobs because of it. We need to be telling them to stand for American jobs and be suspicious if they hint that it's racism to stand up for them. If we fail to do so, it's us that's not being responsible.

Democrats are most charitable with YOUR money. They want to help everyone.
Then they claim they are Christians, but still kill millions of unborn each year. They claim that Christ said to take care of the poor and the hungry, ignoring the fact that he never said "Take someone else's money and feed the poor." Rather, he told us to "Feed the poor." Big difference.
