Yes! definitely...
Personally I live near the border (Canadian) AND there is more illegal activity than you can imagine. Just today in the local news a group or officials carried on a project where they brought illegal products (I think it was chemicals) and nobody stop them. This was to demonstrate the feasibility for terrorists weapons enter the country with no notice whatsoever.
I'm tired of justt listening people complaining about the Mexican border...what about us? the other side of the state like you said has a more difficult geography but that doesn't stop the threats, in fact that is our weak point...security!

The Canadian border should be secured, as well as the Mexican border. The Canadian border is longer, but there are a few geographical features that make it very difficult to cross in places along Canada. But, for the security of the country, ie terrorists, yes, we should have total border control.

The 9/11 terrorists used completely legal means to get into the United States.

There is no indication that terrorists would use the mexican border to cross into the United States. They could very well take a powerboat from Cuba to Florida if they really wanted to. Arguably they would rather use legitimate means to get into the United States in order to avoid arousing suspicion.

Using terrorists as a reason to close the borders is really more of a ploy to convince war-hawks to agree to closing the border between the U.S and Mexico, since the argument that terrorists might cross the border has no weight.

It’s already more closed then the border between Mexico and the US. In many places the trees have been cut down and there is an open area between the two.

In places were there is a problem that open area very wide allowing planes to easily patrol the area. Also the RCMP cooperates with the US, and will return the person who illegally enters into Canada back to the US, unless they are fleeing the death penalty, in which case the US must agree not to seek the death penalty to get the person back. That has to do with their rights in Canada and rarely comes up. The RCMP actively patrols the border to stop people from entering into the US. They also accept people from the US that tried and enter the US illegally from Canada. Canada doesn’t publish a pamphlet to help you to enter the US illegally. Canada really helps by patrolling their side of the boarder.

We have also tightened up the boarder also. When I was growing up you could get a pass that would allow you to go ten miles into Canada without going through a check point. Canadians could also receive that same pass. You can’t get that anymore. We are soon going to require a passport to enter the US from Canada at the expense of trade between the two countries. Also you don’t see the flood of people entering the US from Canada like we do from the southern boarder. That mainly has to do with the economics of Canada verses Mexico. Canada has enough good paying jobs for its citizens and is a well run country, unlike Mexico which depends on the flood of money from the US to keep it afloat.

And yes we have caught terrorist trying to enter the US from Canada, but in that case Canada cooperated with the US in trying to stop people from entering the US illegally from Canada, when was the last time Mexico did that?

I’m going to bet we’ve already seen terrorists enter the US from Mexico, after all it much easier to enter the US from Mexico then from Canada. After all Mexico makes it so easy compared to Canada.

Both border need to be watched. Mexico has a smaller border and can be monitored with less resources. It also has the most activity of illegal entry with the intent to stay in the United States. I believe that terrorist enter our country from many entry points in addition to Mexico and Canada.

You make a valid point, but.... To put it simply, there is no history of literally millions of people coming into the U.S. illegally from Canada. Canada controls its borders more effectively than Mexico does. That should be obvious from the high number of non-Mexican Central Americans who enter via Mexico. I don't believe that this is a racist issue.

well considering the terrorists of 9/11 came thru the canadian border i would be alittle bit more concerned about that one that nobody seems to be watching.

I havent heard of any Mexican terrorists yet, so i think all the pressure on the southern border is a little much and we need to start paying some attention to the north.

I think that they will FLY right in from England Or Spain Or France just like they did before 911. We are not safer if we close the borders up north and down south.

Culture breeds hate to americans that can happen here in the US too. There could be extremist muslims who are here for a LONG time and then strike, they are called "sleeper cells"

they are flying in , not driving through canada or mexico

Are you really trying to compare the RCMP to the Mexican law enforcement? This is a no brainer. Were I a terrorist or working with them, I would cross the Mexican border into the US. That way I could smuggle anything and everything I needed with me. Try that one in Canada.

Terrorists are more likely to sneak across the Canadian border, because it is less secured. They could also try to come in legally. Consider all the British passport holders involved in the 7/7 subway bombings.
