We dont know when we are moving yet, but sometimes between the next 6 month to a year...could be sooner.
I am taking my 2 dogs ( golden retriever and dachshund).
I am not sure the best way to do this. I know all the paperwork needed....and will have a it ready soon.
We are not sure where we live once getting germany ( hubby is with the governmnet), we could be living in a hotel until the house is ready. Do you think its a good idea to have my pups stay with a friend until we are settled in the house and she can ship them over then? I know its a lot of stress on dogs and i have never flown with either of them. What do you guys think?

Germany is a dog friendly country. Most hotels will accommodate your dogs without any problem.
Best of Luck!!!
Notpinkwuffy : on this one you are dead wrong! Huge diff between a car "country ride" and cargo travel for at least 10 hrs. Trust me!!!

You will love it in Germany!! Well-Behaved dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE! It's my life's dream to be able to go to the supermarket with my dogs..
but as far as airline travel, it is no laughing matter. Your dog may not realize what is happening, but it can get too hot or cold in the cargo areas of most planes. Some people think that it is a myth... but since it states this on American Airlines' website.. I don't think we need to dispute it! As to your decision; Your dogs will probably be in quarantine for about 6 weeks, any way (maybe less.. not sure of germany's laws) so you can use that time to ge everyting settled. This is IF Germany even does quarantines on animals. It really comes down to whether or not you trust your friends to do everything right in shipment.. Personally, I'd like to know that my dogs are on the same flight as I am, and that we are all consigned to the same fate.. :) Also, if you are with them and there are any layovers, you can usually take them for walkies! So, have fun in Germany.. I am SO jealous!

If you have someone that can take care of them while you are gone, till you and hubby are settled, it would be best to have them sent to you at a later date. You may not be able to keep your pets in a hotel or renting a house.
On the other hand, you could always board your pets, but I am not sure if that is available in Germany.
You may want to check all your resources before you go.
Good luck.

I'd say it's best to get settled first. You'll have enough to worry about, without the extra worry of whether you're giving your dogs exactly what the need. Best to leave them with a trusted friend or family member then bring them across when you're settled.

Good luck with the move.

i think it would be much less stressful for both you and the dogs if they were with you and not with a friend.. either way they would be in new and uncomfortable surroundings.. best they be with you so they feel safer.. even if it is in a hotel for a little while.. best of luck!
