First, there is no such as thing as Windows 2002. There is Windows Vista, before that Windows XP (which is whould you probably have on your PC) and before that Windows 2000 (which was for business computers, not home usage).

To tell what version of Windows you have, right click on the "My Computer" icon and select Properties. In the upper right of the Properties Windows it will tell you the version of Windows you have.

Microsoft has released two free updates to Windows XP, knows as Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2. In the Properties window it will tell you if you have either of those installed. If you do not have Service pack 2, simply go to http:''microsoft.com and download it. (Be warned that it can take a hour or more to download and install).

Once you have your computer up to Windows XP and Service Pack 2, you will be able to use the iPod.

ipod classic will work on windows when you plugin USB cable. It should get recognized like USB pen drives.

Part that wont work is iTunes. ipod classic requires latest version of iTunes (7.4), this wont install on windows 2000. I've confirmed myself.

I got 80 G classic & was trying to install itunes 7.4 on windows 2000, but failed. Although I can see ipod as a drive in explorer, and can copy paste files there, I cant sync up any audio video as I dont know where to put it.

I guess there's something that's done by iTunes 7.4 during sync. Heard winamp 5.5 beta is able to do the same thing on windows 2000, going to try that out.
