Vick is a complete moron.
It is my firm belief that the idiot PURPOSELY got caught with pot in his system so he could perhaps claim 'i'm an addict, i didn't know how bad dogfighting was' or some other rediculous crap! Testing positive for any drug is giving him something to fall back on.
No marijuana is not worse than dogfighting, to answer your question.
And yes the NFL sends the WRONG message out all the time. Do you know how many NFL players have DOMESTIC VIOLENCE on their record yet still play??? Beat your wife, kill helpless animals, act like a self-righteous ***... and YOU TOO can make MILLIONS!

I answered a question on this same subject a few days and ago and the question got deleted. He did not just fight Dogs, he murdered them. The NFL has alot of strict rules and for good reasons. Vick was on Top of the World and he threw it away. Right now I am not sure Vick is sorry for anything he did except getting caught. Vick was a great Athlete, and I do hope he can be rehabilatated.

Personally, I hate anyone who abused animals or children. His pot use is his own problem, but when he's fighting animals to they're deaths, then it's everyone's problem. I agree, he should lose all contracts with everything, and be punished to the maximum degree. A dog became lose in my yard one time and this guy ran into my yard and got the dog, it was a pit bull to. The dog didn't bother me actually, what bothered me was when his owner punched him in the nose and blood ran. It made me so mad, I called the cops and they didn't do s hit. I told the guy I was calling in on him too. This made me so pissed, but hey, Mansfield (Ohio) police are crooks anyway so I should have expected it! Crooked people get away with things because of crooked law enforcement and I've seen that myself. I really hope justice gets served on Vicks, and not a slap on the butt cheek like many other famous for no real reason people we've heard about before in the news, aka, Paris, Brit........

After the dog fighting charges he should have lost his contract.
Of course drug use is horrible but animal abuse needs to be seen as just as bad, if not worse.
It needs to be a felony no matter what, and be taken much more seriously. It is not becoming a sport and never will be seen as a sport. It is sick and disgusting.
Animal abuse is commonly something that murders/serial killers/etc do before they work their way up to doing the same to people.
At least with somebody getting high, they usually only hurt themselves-physically at least.

Dog fighting is one of the worst things I can ever imagine. When you're training your dog to fight you are actually ruining his every chance at having a normal life. Even if he doesn't die in the fight of suffer complications from the injuries he gets, he will never be a normal dog again, because he's been trained to kill...
As for smoking marijuana... it's bad only for the person who does it, I guess. I wouldn't advise that either, but it's still a lot more harmless then being into dog fights...

Scientists have learned a great deal about how THC acts in the brain to produce its many effects. When someone smokes marijuana, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to organs throughout the body, including the brain. In the brain, THC connects to specific sites called cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors; others have few or none. Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement4. The short-term effects of marijuana can include problems with memory and learning; distorted perception; difficulty in thinking and problem solving; loss of coordination; and increased heart rate. Research findings for long-term marijuana abuse indicate some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid (THC or synthetic forms of THC) withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system5 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine6. Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse..... Read on.....

What a sad state of affairs to consider here. What's the worst of the two evils? Harming, torturing and killing innocent dogs is unthinkable to me. I can't even read about this story without feeling awful. Marijuana? An illegal substance. The whole package is bad, wrong. Being involved with both crimes makes him a criminal. But the dog situation shows he has no respect or compassion for life.

Absolutely, what he did to those poor animals was far worse than than smokin dope! Celebs like him think they're above the law. They get cocky & errogent & deem themselves untouchable. I agree that it sends the entirely wrong msg to everyone, not only kids. He can mame & torture these dogs to death & he still has a chance to get back into his game & his life. Yet he gets high & he's out!!! It really makes me take a good hard look at our country & judicial system & say what the #@*$ has this world come to? At least he fianlly screwed himself by being the idiot he's already proven himself to be, the rules are the rules!!

1. the nfl has a substance abuse policy. they don't have a dogfighting policy (one of those things they didn't envision they'd need). the nfl can't retroactively ban vick for life for dogfighting once he's served his jail time, since by terms of the CBA, he's done nothing to deserve a lifetime ban (until the weed).
2. vick using weed is a violation of the terms of his release. he's basically sh1tting on the judge by saying "i don't care what conditions you've put on me." that won't make the judge happy, who'll likely take it out by banging vick for the maximum jailtime allowed by law.
the rule of law, both in general society & the nfl still hold sway, despite your feelings on the relative severity of each crime.

Anyone who has tendencies towards violence such as Vick should have been banned. It is a proven fact that those who hurt animals is far more likely to hurt humans. If they ban him for pot usage then I would guess that 75% of the professional sportsmen would no longer play.
