I'm a lot like you - prefer savoury over the sweet stuff.
I always believe everything in moderation. Look at what you are eating on a daily basis - if you find you're eating more of a specific salty/fatty snack then half the amount you eat by munching on a piece of fruit or raw veg.....that way you're not giving up your favourite food but simply cutting back and any hunger periods of fulfilled by something good and beneficial.
I, in my opinion, would forget about losing weight - you're wasting your time and energy - focus on eating a little better, I'm positive this will help you longer-term and you will find the weight will come off without ever actually thinking about it or worrying.
You claim to be a great cook - great - use that and find foods that are more beneficial that you can incorporate into the bad things.
As a motivator perhaps avoid anyone that puts you down - these people are no good at the best of times and worse still when you're trying to achieve something. Buy a favourite dress/suit but a few sizes to small and work towards fitting into it.
You must remember, it doesn't matter what you eat exercising plays an important part of keeping fit and burning of those cals.

The best way to lose weight is to do more exercise. I know it's not always easy to motivate yourself to do it but, if you can, then the results will be tremendous. You may not be a runner but walking can be as effective. As for motivation to exercise, find your home town on a map, look for somewhere about 20 miles away and tell yourself that in October you're going to effectively walk the distance between the two places. You walk a mile or so a day just round the block but you build up the mileage into what becomes an impressive total. At the end of the month you can then proudly say, " Last month I walked the distance between X and Y"
Runners call it Incremental Running (check out the website)but it equally applies to walking.

Good for you! Realising that you need to do something is the most important step.
I think you need to start off with really small things in your everyday life so that it doesnt seem like such a major change. Why not try something as simple as having a smaller plate for your dinner so you dont eat as much. Also, everytime you need to go upstairs, go up...come down...and go up again, so that you are adding in a little bit extra exercise each time.
You could try having a main meal at lunch time instead of in the evening, so that you burn more calories away throughout the day. Or make yourself go for a walk after lunch.
Also, try and find an activity that you could really enjoy so that you dont think of it as exercise. Horse riding really works for me....cause its fun and not like having to force yourself into going to the gym.
Routine should also help you. If you can set yourself a plan and stick to it, then you wont constantly be thinking of what you have eaten or what exercise you havnt done!!
Hope this helps. Good luck. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I am a similar size to you. Just started on healthy eating on sunday. Doing ok so far.
For me one choc biscuit leads to another so I am not having any! Feel a bit rough but think my body is detoxing, getting used to a healthier diet.
Every time I've allowed myself one previously its leaded to 2 or 3.....
Cut your portion sizes down if you eat the same types of food, or ideally eat healthier. Have a salad on the side of the plate or have lean chicken.
Diet Pepsi is not great. I stay away from diet drinks don't think they are good for you. I'd rather have one can of Pepsi (Not Diet) once a week than 7 cans of diet a week.
Start by having a healthy breakfast, and then you may feel pleased with yourself and be more inclined to try hard the rest of the day.
Prepare meals plan in advance
If you can clear out your fridge, and cupboards of treats.
If I have something I shouldn't I put soap on it to stop me eating any more.

You need to look at the reasons why you overeat, are you bored, lonely fed up? I am in recovery from depression and I have eaten for comfort so I am now losing weight. The best thing to do is focus on doing some kind of physical exercise you enjoy whether its walking the dog, playing tennis or something else.
Personally I like swimming I can do it any time of the day or night and its always relaxing. Go for it you can do it and good luck xx

I myself was overweight last year, and so joined my local slimmingworld group - it was brilliant, I never felt hungry and the weight dropped off me - so much so that I lost 3 stones in just under 7 months - going down from a size 16 to a size 10! I reached target in november last year and am maintaining my weight wonderfully. At least with SW you don't have to rely on counting calories or points, if you feel hungry at 3am have something to eat!! stick to the free food and you will lose weight very well. Hope this helps.

First of all, look at how you can make delicious savoury meals without a lot of fat or calories, eg. stir fries with soy sauce, etc, rather than meals with butter - you can easily research these in diet books or on the net.
Secondly, you have to imagine really clearly what your life would be like if you were healthier - what would it feel like going to work every day, walking down the street and getting appreciative glances, being able to walk faster, being able to physically face any challenge? Imagine all of this really carefully and when you want to give in, imagine this again. Personally, I look at pictures of Jessica Simpson and that gets me going! LOL. However, at the end of the day, none of us are going to look like celebrities - we have to be happy with ourselves and that means treating ourselves well - good healthy food, exercise and realising that the basis we set for our health now will follow us into old age. Do you want to be confined to your house, or to a wheelchair because of the stress you have put on your body? Do you want diabetes? Do you want cardiac or respiratory problems?
You can do it, girl!! But start with the mind and heart first and convince yourself that you deserve better - the feet will follow!
All the best, sweetie. PS: Try substituting 1 tspn honeyfor sugar in your tea - still sweet, but not refined and rubbishy.

Think realistically what size you would like to get down to and then go out and buy a pair of Jeans or trousers in this size. Hang them on the outside of your wardrobe door or somewhere where you will see them all the time and use these as a goal towards your weight loss.
Good luck

You're a good cook right? Why not cook something that could help you lose weight? And maybe a long walk in a park a day and a little sports would help much as well.... Hope you reach your goal. (^.^)
