A person's toe nail can become black when excessive amounts of alcohol is consumed. The toxins in the blood will circulate in our system and will remain in the lowest part of the body. Check with your doctor though to be sure.

This happens when you run or walk a lot. A blood blister forms under the nail, and it pushes the nail away from the nail bed. New, healthy nail growing in forces the damaged nail to fall off. To prevent this in the future, wear proper socks and good quality, properly fitted shoes. It can also help to drain the blister before the whole nail blackens.

If you can HONESTLY say there has been no trauma, and the black is not resolving it is odd.
If the black is spreading to your skin, this could be extremely serious - see a Doctor at once.

Black could be a sign of blood poisoning. It may not, but I would check with a doctor ASAP.
