I am talking about a charity where 97% of it is going directly to a good cause, like helping dying children.

yep...won't disagree with you there. Often wonder about it when I see a 3 million dollar church.

But I also see the charities making a difference in the third world countries I visit. Funny thing, for the most part, all have been Christian.

Give you an example..I currently am working in a west african country. I live in the 2nd largest city in country...some 75,000 folk live there. Between my staff house and the airport, I pass by three Presidential compounds...all with so much gold and marble...and right next to them...shanties made of old wood and tin.

But I also pass by one catholic missionary, one Assembly of God, one Church of God, two Baptist missions. In town, I know there are 4 clinics run by Christian nurses. I know of 2 places where Churches from a neigboring country have micro-banks to help get people a start up. And then there is the Chineese Christians...could write a lot about what they are doing......

and then there is the one Unicef compound...of all the ways to help reach the downtrodden...there's is the only one with barbwire all over the place.

Sure...the churches could put more of their tithe into making a difference. But I'm at the far end of that money-pipe line, and I'm looking around...where are then secular humanist organizations? Where are the hospitals founded by atheists?

So...I'll throw the question back at ya...wouldn't the man at the bottom benefit more if we gave our money to organizations helping him instead of the millions given to animal rights organizations, or the hundreds of millions that Plan*** P****hood gets? I guess it's better for someone to work on a dog's self esteem than to give a man the tools he needs to feed his family. I guess it's better to just abort than to even fight for a chance to live.

Much are church tithes go to charities. - ministries that the church supports. Likewise Christians like myself also give directly to charities. Christians are the most generous people in the world.

I would suggest to you that much of the money recieved in the church offering plates do make a huge difference. Quite a bit of church offerings go to missions which bring medical care, food, clothing, housing, support to those in need of those physical needs. And if I may.... it is wonderful even critical to care for the clothing, food, sort of charities... but vital to be concerned and actively working for the spiritual needs of others.
