If you're going to South Africa and have the chance to go to a national park or on a safari, then you're going to need as much zoom as possible. Because of this, I would not recommend the A720IS...6x zoom will probably not be enough for what you might need, so between the two cameras you posted, I would go for the Fuji S6500fd due to the 10x zoom.
However, if I could make another suggestion, if your budget is around ~$250 (I'm guessing it's around this based on prices for the previous two cameras), I would also suggest looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8. 7.2 megapixels, 12x optical zoom, captures 7 images at 3 frames per second, and the lens has built in Image Stabilization for use in lower-light shots.
Another reason I recommend this camera is the storage media it uses. The Fuji uses xD cards, which are only used by a few companies- I think Olympus and Fuji only?- so if you move to another camera, then you may have to scrap that memory card for another. The Panasonic uses Secure Digital (SD) cards, which are becoming the most popular form of flash storage media in digital cameras today, so if you move to another camera, your chances to be able to re-use the memory card in that camera would be greater if you got one that uses SD.
I've provided a link to the DMC-FZ8 specifications in my sources.

Have a look at the Panasonic FZ50. I have the FZ10 and the photos have been excellent. It even has anti shake which means you can hand hold in low light.

Go for Fuji. And don't put anything expensive in your baggage that is not going in as hand luggage. Have it wrapped and put a chain and lock around it.
I am being serious, they are stealing clothes, I Pods, cameras at the airport, before they go on the luggage round about. Also take your slip for your camera with you in your wallet, with your passport.

Definitely the Canon. It has more optical zoom (digital zoom is pretty useless unless you like lousy quality) and Image Stabilization.
Make sure you have the correct adapters for using your battery charger.

Go for Panasonic - FZ20 or newer according to you budget...
If you are short, a second hand FZ5 can be found for $150-160 on ebay and that will perfectly match your needs !
