I want to play my camcorder videos on computer, but am not sure how to connect them. The camcorder is about 8 years old and only has a 5mm jack lead hole, no others.
Could anyone point out to me what I need to buy, either from argos or maplin?
Thanks

I have found that it's best to take the cam with you to the store, that way you will get the right connection. There are so many variations.

I assume your camcorder is not digital. You will need something like a Dazzle Fusion made by Pinnacle which can convert analogue tapes to digital. If you have a lead to connect your cam to the TV then it will connect to the converter (whether the output socket is 5mm or 3mm). You won't be able to get one of these devices from Argos - far too complicated for them!- and I'm not sure about Maplin. You may have to try on line - google 'Pinnacle' or have a look at www.dabs.co.uk (I'm not sure where I brought mine from)

Would help if you told us a bit more about your camcorder - make & type etc. along with a bit more information on the recording media - is it 8mm tape ?? , VHS-C tape ?? - it could even be Digital tape.

I don't remember any connections on a camcorder which were about 5mm dia - many have a 3mm jack - is it one of those

If we had those details someone would be able to give you a more positive answer.

Now a days you your camcorder would come with a usb cord to connect to your pc. You would need to go to Best Buy, Circuit City or a store like it, tell them what you have and you should be able to buy an adapter or something.

if its a firewire device u have to plug it into a firewire (ieee1394) port, unless u have a converter that allows u to use the usb port
