My true feelings are that the war was justified based on the information we had at the time. If the US Congress did not also believe that they would not have approved of the declaration of war.
Those in Congress who have since changed their positions have made a political mess of things both domesticly and abroad.
Granted the president may have made mistakes (I dont know), but since he is the Commander in Chief without the majority of support of the Congress and a growing discontent in the people, failure will be far more damaging to our credibility as Americans. While our people separate themselves from the president, other countries/people do not make that distinction...and there are other countries/people that would like more prestige/esteem that would capitalize on our "failure". This will not go away.
Most American citizens support the soldiers in some small way or another but the squeeky wheel gets the grease- so the louder and more vocal few are receiving more attention and are influencing those who may have been positive to neutral or neutral to negative with a constant anti-war sentiment and a misrepresentation of the events that led to the war itself. Ultimately the troops suffer from the negativitiy generated here at home.
All that may lead to how you feel right now but there is hope. Continue supporting your family, keep praying if you choose to, and stop wasting your time looking to the media to give you good news- good news doesnt sell.
That's just the feelings of this veteran.

You are just depressed. All Americans outside the beltway support the troops and the sacrifices they make to defend our country. You do not say where they are deployed, but some people are annoyed about the way in which they were used as pawns to play a game of corporate greed and politial revenge by the Bush crime family. They hate the message, not the messengers, and would like to support the soldiers by bringing them home, rather than denying them appropriate leave, etc.

Unlike the Vietnam soldiers the men today have a great deal of support . Not only thoses of us that served in wars prior to Iraq but society as a whole . There are a multitude of Military sites . Even the Vietnam Veterans Against the War still support the men of today.

I don't support this war. However, as a retired soldier and the father of one serving in Iraq, I 100% support our soldiers. What I find distressing are all the Democrats who voted along with the Republicans to get us into this mess who now think you can just pack up and leave. We have some obligation to solve the problem we created and that will not be accomplished by leaving Iraq to fight it out in a civil war. You can bet the resulting government will not be democratically elected and most certainly will not be friendly to the United States.

I'm military and don't care much for support in the way most people see it.
They try to buy me a drink at the airport when I was on my way back home from the desert and I refused, saying "I appreciate it but I don't want a free drink just because I'm in uniform". If I get spit on, I'll take it like a man and move on.
The support I want is from the higher-ups who'd ensure that we'd have more time in between deployments to hell.

We support our troops but there are a lot of misinformed people in our country who need to be educated and check facts before they start spouting their agnostic remarks. You may be a bit depressed but there are also a lot of those who aren't supporting our troops as they are lumping all their political bull crap together and forgetting that its men /heroes like your Husband and son that give these idiots the right to be idiots. We are with you and Thank-you for your sacrifice. God Bless and Keep You,your husband and son Safe.

The Majority of the people in the United States support and are thankful for the job our Troops are doing. Don't let the Liberal Left of the Democratic Party depress you. They are Idiots.

My husband is in Iraq and there are times when I feel just like you do. I hear certain comments now and again and think to myself I can't believe my husband is in harms way and your actually saying bad stuff to me. I believe everyone should be entitled to their own opinions, just dont come up to me and say stuff to my face cause that only stresses me out more. I know there are a lot of people that support our troops and I'm very thankful for people like that. Sometimes you just have to take certain things in stride because you can't fight all of those that dont support. Your son and husband are in my prayers and I hope they come home safely. Please tell them I said thank you.

I want to thank you and your family for your service and sacrifice. We must inculcate those who don't support our troops in time of war; those that give aid and comfort to the enemies of America will be defeated, we must fight as hard as the brave soldiers overseas to ensure they get all the support that's needed for the victory and the existence of America. God bless you.

My true feeling is that the only people who have the right to an opinion about any war are those who have personally been on the front lines and everyone else is just spewing propogandic heresy.
