you CAN do anything while breastfeeding but just because you can doesn't mean you should. you CAN get drunk, you CAN do illicit drugs and you CAN get a tattoo. but any time you get a tattoo you potentially expose yourself to staph infection or other things like hepatitis. (you can never be 100% sure that you won't have some complications) not that it happens very often but it is possible and you would then be exposing your baby to that as well. it is just safer to wait until you are finished breastfeeding.

The connection between tattooing and blood donation has to do more with infected needles and the connection to hepatitis or AIDs. It shouldn't be a problem while you are breastfeeding unless you want a tattoo on your breast. If that is the case, I would wait until your baby is weaned. There is a possibility of infection, of course, and because the ducts are expanded with less connective tissue between them, it might be possible to introduce some of the ink into a duct.

I would wait until the child is fed. You never know when the baby's yelling or crying could startle the person giving you the tattoo. One careless slip o' the hand could cause the tattoo to be less than perfect. That's my advice.

just to be on the safe side, wait a couple months until the baby is off the breast and onto a bottle or solid foods.
these days, it's not common, but you're still at risk for infection when you get a tattoo.

Many tattoo shops won't tattoo or pierce you if you're pregnant or breast-feeding. Because there is a risk of infection, it's not recommended. Also, your body is not functioning normally when you are pregnant/breast-feeding and so you may not be able to heal your tattoo properly, or you may pass-out or go into shock.

I have never met anyone who 10-20 years later was happy with their tattoo. Dont do it.
I met a guy who does tattoos in London for celebrities and he said how bad they are and how he regreted all his (was just business to him now). He said tattoos damage skin - even semi permanent ones. They fade, go green, etc.
Why bother?

Why would you risk anything that could risk, possible interupt your nursing of your child? It's only been on this earth 3 months! Can his needs for your breast take presidence over your need to make a tatoo that you can do anytime??

You're not injecting anything into yourself expect for ink so I don't see why it wouldn't be safe.
Well of course make sure all needles used are new. Make sure the tattoo artist opens the needles in front of you.
But yeah, getting a tattoo isn't going to affect anything.

I don't see how it would hurt anything. But just to be on the safe side, ask your doctor. Many pigments contain toxic ingredients, but they come out with the scab.
