In the USA you can. Of course it all depends on many factors and may also depend on the situation you are looking at. Homestudy is definitely required and the ability to care for a child. However you do not need to be rich or own your own home in order to adopt. If you are wanting a newborn, it is more difficult to adopt domestically as many birthmoms choose only 2 parent families. Guatemala is a good option for infants. Eastern Europe will allow single moms. I am not sure of the rules for Asia.

If you choose to foster/adopt you can be specific in what you can take/handle. No guarantees but there isnt in any way you look at it-be it adoption or by birth!

I'm single and adopted an 11 year old through a disruption. (an adoption that didnt work out). It worked well for me. We are now looking to adopt again and there hasnt been any real problems so far. Best of luck! Sheri

Yes you can but its depends on the agencies, like China now singles can not adopt they use to be able to but China changed some of their adoption criteria which went into effect early this year. There are many single people who adopt. You just have to find an agency and see what their adoption criteria is. I think there are some south American countries that allow singles to adopt, it just depends. I think most states allow single adoption. Did a research paper on gay adoption a few years ago, and remember there were a few states that didn’t allow single adoption.

Yes, as long as the situation is acceptable then you would not be discriminated against, there would be extra questions such as what if you met someone who did not want children etc and you would need to discuss your situation and reasons etc but as long as you have a spare room, a checkable background and can offer a child a safe and secure loving home then you will be an asset to the adoption team.

Yes, definitely. If it wasn't allowed thousands of children would not be adopted each year :( Unmarried women can still provide very loving and nurturing homes!!!!!

This depends on what country you a) live in and b) are wanting to adopt in. Not a problem in the US, wanting to adopt in the US. I know some countries, like China, require the adopting party to be a married couple.
