Its a pretty easy out to blame God for everything.

For example, a woman gets stabbed and killed on a New York City street, in broad daylight, with literally hundreds of people in the near vicinity, not one single person jumps in to help her, but many will say: why did God do this?

Likewise, an oil refinery pollutes the air and water and a larger percentage of people in the community get cancer, so God gets blamed.

A person smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day, then at age 65 finds out they have cancer: again, we hear, ... why did God do this?

You see, it is very easy to blame God when the blame should be elsewhere.

God doesn't give people cancer, and you don't necessarily give yourself cancer either. Cancer can be about bad choices, etc., but it also has to do with genes and some with chance. You can't say one thing gave you cancer, and another didn't. As sad as it is, that's just the way it is.

The "why" is different for each individual that God allows to get cancer.

God loves every one on earth, he wants us to be eternally happy like he is. To do this we need to be more like him. Many people draw closer to God as they face the end of their life on Earth. People also become more like God as they serve other people, so sometimes someone could get cancer so that others around them have a chance to give service. Sometimes it is to strengthen courage and faith.

I believe that God won't allow anyone to be tempted or tried beyond what he or she is capable of enduring. Whether an individual endures a trial is the choice of that individual. But God will provide everyone the tools they/we need to overcome or endure any trial, IF we ask in faith.

God does not throw cancer or any other sickness on people. He simply does not have His hand of protection on those who reject Him, and thereby His protection as well. This fallen world allows plenty room for sickness. When people reject God’s protection by rejecting Him, cancer could freely play its toll on people through long standing stress and other abuses on the body, soul and spirit.

Everything God does is intended to glorify Him. Not because He's selfish, but because He truly is the only one who deserves it, and because our salvation lies in seeing Him.

It is important to remember that God is concerned about our eternal well-being way more than about our temporary comforts. If it takes pain to bring us to the realization of our need for Him, then He very well may allow for that to happen. Or He may use us to minister to someone close to us. For example, if I'm a Christian, and I've just lost a leg, and all I can talk about is God's grace in my life, then a non-believer close to me, might see that my faith is real, and might seek out God for the first time.

The particular situation might seem incomprehensible as to how could God possibly use something for good. Why would He allow for cancer of a single mother, whose children might have to go to foster home, and perhaps even get abused in a bad home? Why would God put someone innocent through that? I don't know, but I know that He knows, and that's good enough for me. It's usually hard to accept, and the worse the trial, the harder it is to accept that a good and loving God has allowed it. But I know that He is in control. He knows what He's doing, and that even in the very worst of circumstances, His will is perfect.

On the other hand, I don't believe that everything that's wrong in our lives is is that way because God intended for it to happen. We make choices, and often these are wrong choices with bad consequences. If we chose to smoke all our lives, knowing that our bodies are the temples of the living God and that we're likely to get cancer, then God will certainly not remove the consequences of our mistakes from our lives. He's removed the consequences of our spiritual mistakes, and that's plenty enough as it is.

P.S. Just as many here have pointed out, God does not give people sickness. But He does allow it. He is in total control. If He told Satan "Don't touch this person", Satan would not do anything. But God will also honor the freedom of choice He gave us. If we choose to let sin rule our lives, then we also accept the consequences of that decision. And, as mentioned earlier, He will allow trials as a way to bring more people to salvation.

There is no God. People get cancer because of the way they live. There is proof that changing bad habits decreases your chances of geting cancer. There is also proof that picking up bad habits will increase your chances of getting cancer. This is not always 100% accurate though. Some people who have bad habits live long lives...while people who are healthy and have no bad habits die at a young age.

It's mostly a roll of the dice...but there are things that can be done on either side of the coin, to either prevent or incurr cancer.

In bible, angels can give sickness as punishment. The bible wrote sin causes sickness. Green Mile is the true story to explain the illness.

Messages of Jesus from official apparition sites also say "when men have too many sins, the Father will angry, and the punishment is more sicknesses, wars or natural disasters". Looks like influenza flu killed 20 millions people around the globe after WWI, then growth of heart disease after WWII, and explosion of cancers after Korean and VN war.

Who told you he did?
If you were to exercise and eat right like a smart person does then your chances of getting cancer goes down. Besides everyone will die as one point whether it's by cancer or not.
