I've read the answers here and decided to add my opinion. I was brought up to hold doors for women, give up my seat and other "degrading" acts (according to some women that answered here). I do this for women and men if the situation calls for it. I don't do these things to make a woman feel good or bad, I do them to make me feel better. I feel like I am aiding someone to feel better and to have a better time than they were having before. I was raised in Louisiana and my mother taught me to always show respect for women, whether they deserved it or not. Sometimes, by giving them this kind of respect, they will see that it is not a matter of if you are strong enough to open your own door, it feels good to have someone give you some respect. Also, I have been married for 20 years and I still open the door for my wife wherever we go. I even open the door on the car for her, then go around and get in afterwards.

Women's Lib and liberated women are in the process of killing chivalry. There IS NO REASON for it any longer. True, SOME women still want the perks of it, but it is on it's way out. Hopefully to be replaced by politeness which transcends gender. However, then women will be EXPECTED to do their share towards helping others, being respectful, etc. The transition is going to be longer and more painful than many women would expect, because they get full respect as citizens of the world and being female counts for little or nothing more than the gender that it is.

I loathe all that rubbish. Save your seat giving for someone who needs it ~ an elderly person or pregnant woman, I can stand up, and I can open my own doors unless my hands are full, in which case I'm as glad to receive help from a woman as a man!
Why do guys have to have the job of running around being doorman for a bunch of able bodied women? I have NO idea!!!
Chivalry dates from the time of wives being locked in iron chastity belts while their husbands galloped off to the Crusades. If you think that is romantic, imagine sitting in one for years.
And I especially loathe women who take advantage of men's so called "chivalry" to get stuff for themselves, they are the sort who set us all back a million years and why so many men regard women as avaricious and interested only in what they can get from a guy.

Well mannered gentlemen still do these things for well mannered ladies.
However, for most day to day activities, the lines are blurred. For instance, if I am on a date or at a family fuction, I do all of these things. However, when I am on my way to work, and I stop off at QuickTrip, I don't hold the door, or take my hat off. Sometimes, this 'automatic pilot' takes over in other social situations, and I forget myself. I think this happens more and more.

I find it insulting when a man opens a door for me - as if I am not strong enough to open my own door. I work out everyday - I'm probably stronger than most men - I can open my own door thank you. And I don't need you to "allow" me through the door
I find it insulting for a man to give up his seat for me as if I am to weak or frail to stand. If there are no seats and I want to sit I will wait for the next train.
The worst is when men stand outside the elevator and hold the door for me to go in - then if I go in (not because they allowed me to but because I was there first) they crowd me in and push their backpacks against me squishing me against the back of the car as they comfortably stand in the front of the car - it's fake chivalry to get themselves a good elevator spot.
My theory is that who ever is there first gets the goods - a train seat, a walk through the door, a good spot in the elevator car etc.
Hopefully "chivalry" will become extinct.

Etiquette & Chivalry are no longer a part of our society as the morals & manners that the Bible taught have also been "removed" from the "picture". Mankind in & of itself is NOT going to be chilvalrous, kind, thoughtful or use respectful etiquette towards one another. We as a whole...have decided to remove that aspect of our "humanity".
TOO bad!!
There is much to be gained in having God IN the picture of life!

I think it depends on the individuality of each person. And why is it always up to the men? I think it's exciting to do those things for a man from time to time and show them a little respect as well.

It isn't dead and thankfully so. There are many women who feel themselves so superior that a simple act of politeness turns them into feminist snobs and it's shameful and sad. Common courtesies and good manners show others that one is able to be gracious when politeness is exhibited in any way. When one forgets how to be gracious they have also lost their decency.

100% right u r, that Women killed courtesy towards women "Chivalry", due to
1- In their fail attempt to prove themselves as stronger than men.
2-Western society falsely claims to have uplifted women
Western talk of women’s liberalization is nothing but a disguised form of exploitation of her body, degradation of her soul, and deprivation of her honour. Western society claims to have ‘uplifted’ women. On the contrary it has actually degraded them to the status of concubines, mistresses and society butterflies who are mere tools in the hands of pleasure seekers and sex marketeers, hidden behind the colourful screen of ‘art’ and ‘culture’.
3-Men is not superior than Women and Women is not superior than Men in aggregate both are different, so both should accept each others superiority over other, when it is true.
4-Men are better in strength, decision making, inventions etc (generally it is true) & Women are better in kindness, hand writing, gaining good grades etc (generally it is true).

The feminazis brutally murdered chivalry, but now they're starting to regret it because it's finally sinking in through their thick skulls that equal rights doesn't mean equal rights among men and special rights for women and they are too weak to be able to live without special treatment.
