Because he is cocky. His ********* doesn't bother me, its his driving that counts. He is definitely the best and still my favorite driver.

Well i would say Dale Sr. answered this question best way back when....
you dont get to where you are in this sport by making friends!!!
and if the fans are cheering or booing atleast they are making noise!!!
it was a statement very similiar to that i cant quote it word for word but you get the point huh??
this is a very wide fan based sport and we are all not gonna like the same drivers!!! there are too many drivers & too many opinions!!
I think the not liking of gordon came to pass in the Dale Sr. times when they were racing together!!! the Earnhardt & Gordon fans!! who knows he is a good driver as are all the drivers on the track or they wouldnt be out there!!! just let it go keep on giving your driver props every week no matter what people say or what he does if your a fan your a fan no matter what!!!!
GO HARVICK & RCR!!!!
NASCAR ROCKS!!!

I don't hate Jeff Gordon and he is one of the best of all time, but I have a few of theories as to why he's hated. 1) He is a winner who does not fit the Southern good old boy image; 2) He drives a Chevrolet, so Ford, Dodge, and Toyota fans would not like him, 3) untrue rumors persist that he is gay which does not fit the conservative stances by many of the fans; and 4) he is not Dale Earnhardt, Jr. I think he has won over even some of his "haters" over the years because he has shown class despite the boos and false rumors.

JEALOUSLY, remember when jeff decided to go cup racing alot of teams went after him. jeff chose hms, a good team then , and now the top gm team in nascar. alot of fans didn't like it when he started winning, people wined he was cheating , given special treatment. this young man has earned everything he has. 4 time champion ( hopefully 5) if the late dale sr. had no problem with his success why should you or any one else. jeff, jr, jimmie j matt, greg ,tony s , jamie the busch bro'sand many more are the future of nascar. may they all be successful in there careers.

Not born in the South, a winner from the start of his career, better than Earnhardt Jr, passed Sr in wins, won more races head to head than Sr did, took some of the spot-lite away from Sr. Hate Gordon all you want, but it still doesn't take away all his wins, championships & over-all success he has had in NASCAR.

I don't "hate" Jeff Gordon, but I "love to hate" him, meaning that I am a fan of another driver and consider him to be the guy who has to be beat. That also means I highly respect and admire his talent and racing skill. I'm not a Jeff hater, I am a Jeff Anti-fan.

Gordo is the Howard Cosell of NASCAR. I remember a poll once of the most popular and the most hated sportcaster on TV. Cosell finished first on both counts.
"3" was both loved and hated. It took dying for him to pretty much get off the hate list.
Jealousy is pretty much at the root. Also, not all drivers are for all people.
Lots of good answers here on both sides of the coin.

Why do people admittedly knowing nothing about Nascar answer questions?
Nascar drivers are NOT PREDOMINATELY FROM THE SOUTH. More are from California than any other state. Of the top 12 drivers in the chase 10 are not from the south and 2 are.

Some dislike him becuase he wasnt born in the south and seeing as it was a sport that started in the south and is prodominetly dominated by drivers from the south. They see him as an outsider.
Some say becuase he whines alot and acts like a baby.
I don't watch nascar, but my brother does he is a tony stewart fan and he doesnt like gordon for just that reason when I asked him.
I saw a special about him and while I don't think i would hang out with him he seemed like a decent guy. He eas very involved in charities as a matter of a fact he refused to sign autographs for companies requesting stuff signed by him until he saw their caritable donation list. If it was not enough he wouldnt sign them.

you get 2 for the price of one question in this one, the media shove him in everyones face and resentment builds as there are other drivers out there and they do not get the play that Jeff does, that being said we go to part 2, he is not the typical southern good ol boy and fans hate that as well...It would also appear that nascar wants to make him the next Earnhardt and that is never gonna happen

Not the best of all time, best of his era with the equipment he has to use maybe. Can't compare drivers or any other sport to something that they are involved in that has changed so much.
Even though people with blinders do.
I don't know why people dislike him, other than statements like you just made that irritate people like me that know you can't compare to the past greats like Petty who has 200 victories and you are telling me Gordon is the best of all time. I don't see your proff. I am OK with Gordon. I don't root for him nor boo him and if I did it would be not directed at him but people that make statements like you just did.
