We started dating when I was 14 he was 16. Met him in Tahiti but only during the summer. Flew back to Florida. Was still in love with him, but I dated other guys and he dated other girls in Tahiti. But every summer we would hook back up when I visited Tahiti, this lasted fro; 1999 until 2002. Then I moved to Tahiti in 2003, and we hooked back up again, this time for good. We're engaged now, and have benen living together for the past 4 years.
It was a difficult thing to be so far apart, I missed him, but I was youngm so I did have other boyfriends, but nothing really serious. But our hearts called eachother, and we decided to never part again.
Happy ending

When I was on active duty in the military I had a long-distance relationship. Since I was in special forces, and my unit was deployed over 75% of the time at odd locations and times, I came home only once during my active duty. So this "relationship" was mostly writing letters (email wouldn't have worked anyway where I was most of the time) and phone calls when I had some down time.

It actually lasted, although I know she was "dating" and having sex with other boys (if you failed to bother to serve in a forward deployed combat position you are still a boy and always will be). We "dated" after I came back home for maybe 6-8 months depending on what you count.

She decided she wanted to move away to go to college and I stayed.

Do long-distance relationships work?

Maybe, but the odds of it happening are probably worse than actually meeting someone face to face and getting to know them.

Most of my relationships have been long distant. In my first relationship with a guy that I met over the internet, it lasted nearly 5 years. He ended up moving out to the same state as me to attend school but we just discovered that our lives had taken separate paths. I am currently in a relationship with a guy who lives about 3 hours away from me. We used to go to school together and have known each other for most of our college careers but he graduated and is now working. It is difficult because we are still in an early stage of our relationship but trust has never been an issue. What is hard is not being able to see the person when you want to and being limited to only one or two weekends a month to see each other when you're only a few hours drive away from each other.
