I'm ADDICTED!!! I drink about 6 a day, and I know its taking a toll on my health and my teeth.

The problem is I am so weak. I don't smoke or do drugs, I barely drink, and I feel like this is my only vice. But I'm starting to be slightly overweight, and I'm afraid if I keep it up I might become hypoglycemic or something.

Someone give me some advice on how to stop!!! I'm desperate!

Also, would diet soda be such a bad idea? I've heard they don't help you lose weight at all...

Are you addicted to sugar or are you addicted to soda?

Or are you drinking sodas with caffeine in them (colas and others) and are addicted to that?

The sugar habit is hard to beat, because it involves insulin and all kinds of other body chemicals that you have been stimulating. It gets into an unhealthy vicious cycle. They write whole books about that; you might look for one.

There is nothing wrong with diet soda. They never have the same flavor, but they are really close. And it would make a big difference in your teeth and in the number of calories you consume. A 12-oz can of Coca-cola has 155 calories. 6 of those is nearly 1000 calories. It only takes 3500 calories to gain a pound.

If you are addicted to the caffeine in them, don't go cold turkey. That causes a vile headache. Go with the decaffeinated diet sodas, coffee, or tea.

I had to quit drinking carbonated beverages after stomach surgery a few years back and discovered how refreshing iced tea is. Cheaper than soda if you make your own. You can buy it in cans or bottles with artificial sweeteners, and if you look really hard you can find it with nothing in it.

I hope you do it.

Wow six times a day is really bad. I thought I was addicted to soda at 1-2 times a day. To quit or at least slow it down you need self-restraint. Other then that you need to stop buying soda. I found that if i didn't have soda at home or it wasn't readily avaliable i didn't drink. The second thing you can do is substitute some other mind of drink for soda. I usually substitute capri sun, the kiwi strawberry flavored one and it works for me. Try substituting a healthy drink like juice for the soda. But the biggest thing is don't buy too much soda. Buy only one 12 pack carton say every two weeks and tty to cut back. You will drink less like this.

Try replacing it with water and add a crystal light on the go to it (lots of yummy flavors; sugar free)!! I was addicted to caffeine (soda & coffee) for a long time as well. When I cut it out of my diet, I suffered from headaches for about a week or two then gradually they went away. Now I allow myself a soda every once in a while. I've lost almost 15 pounds just from that!

Yeah, too many calories for sure. You are consuming over 720 per day not counting your meals..
Try cutting down gradually at first. Buy some V8 Juice. Drink Natural Water in the single serving bottles..this way you can be sipping throughout the day.. And I wouldn't replace regular soda with diet soda because you mentioned that your teeth are suffering. Try to stay away from artificial sweetners..who knows what that can do to you.

Diet soda doesn't help you lose weight, but they do have fewer calories.

I'd suggest tapering off. For a week only have 5 (replace the 6th, 7th, and 8th) :) with water, juice, or milk. The next week cut out one more each day. Do you want to stop or cut back?

Doing this I went from 4+ a day and 4-6 cups of coffee to ONE soda (12 oz can) and 2 cups of coffee a day. I've also lost 10+ pounds. With as much weight as I have to lose, it doesn't show, but my clothes fit better.

I have found that, for me, substituting the raspberry-flavored iced tea (without sweetener) works very well. They have one at Sonic, and maybe some other restaurants, which can be ordered unsweet. (Or you could brew and chill your own at home.) It gives you that little hit of flavor without the sugar, and in the summer it is very refreshing. I very rarely have a Coke now, but when I do, I enjoy it more because I'm not drinking it constantly like water. Good luck breaking the habit.
