This is actually an excellent question. This is a meaningless self serving promo slogan of the cities of Santa Clarita, Saugus, Valencia and a few other Chambers of Commerce to jointly sell and promote tourism in their remote area. Obviously there are hundreds of canyons all over the metro L.A. area, from for example, Topanga Canyon , Laurel Canyon and Benedict Canyon and running all the way out to Big Bear..It makes about as much sense as calling the San Fernando Valley "THE VALLEY" when the are hundreds of valleys...That's just what people do....
