My friends and I were having this discussion the other night. The question pretains mostly to illegal immigrants who can't afford to have kids but keep having them despite the fact that they are on welfare. The idea is that if you sign up to receive assitance from the government, you should be scheduled every 3 months to have the Depo-Provera (birth control) shot in order to keep receiving the welfare provided by the tax paying Americans. If you don't go to get the shot, they cut all benefits. No questions asked. Just wanted to get some other views from this because I live in central texas where illegal immigrants and just trash in general are abundant, and you always see them with like 4 kids and pregnant with another one. It's disgusting.

I agree dogs, I know people from every minority abuse the systems provided by our tax money. It doesn't make it any less despicable but I only generalize when I say "illegal immigrants" because...
A) they're not supposed to be here in the first place receiving our benefits
and
B) they have too many kids that they can't provide for...

but yes, I know white and black people abuse it just as much.

Thomas M, you are sadly mistaken. I have seen it enough to know that they receive benefits, I also, unlike others educate myself on the topic before I spout off in a question or answer. There are programs specifically designed for Illegals to give them assitance. I have been behind them in the grocery store too many times, seeing them with four shopping carts full of SH*T (one cart alone is nothing but milk) with their 9 kids running amok and they whip out the food stamps and wic to pay for it all. So don't try to convine me that they aren't getting assitance. and to the person who said they shouldn't get the shot because it is against their religion.... that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. I know Catholics don't believe in birth control, but do they care about our beliefs and values when they cross the border into our country illegally and start working jobs here ILLEGALLY and having kids and mooching from our economy...I THINK NOT!

Thomas M this is my last reply to you. I am NOT racist in anyway, shape or form... but I do however have a huge issue with people being here illegally, be they, black, brown, red, yellow or white. It's not right and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who they are most of the time. No they should be on birth control while they are on welfare. Being on welfare is like being a 14 year old child being raised by their mother and father. if you are a parent you place rukles on your child. You do not let your child do what ever they want. You tell them I am supporting you and I am providing food, clothing and shelter for you because you are under 18 years of age. I therefore set the rules as the parent. That is what you would tell a child.

Well in the same way the tax payers have the right to tell the person on welfare what to do and how to live since they are providing: food, clothing and shelter for the welfare recipient.

That is why I think that women on welfare should not be allowed to continue to have babies since they cannot support a baby and give the baby or child (food, clothing and shelter) by the person working to provide those necessities to the child. The govt provides those needs by taxing the taxpayers to fgive the welfare mothers food clothing and shelter.

Also to answer the yahoo answerer who thinks that illegals do not collect welfare becasue they are afraid to go into government offices to get benefits well he should learn that most American cities such as New York Chicago Newark Philadelphia and sanfrancisco and many other major cities are known as "sanctuary cities" where no government worker in hospitals, welfare offices, hospitals, or schools are allowed to report a person as being an illegal alien. Here in New York city the city worker will lose his job instantly, a rule which mayor Rudolph (law and order) Giuliani said that no city worker would keep his job if they reported a person as being an illegal alien to the Immigration Depaertment. So in this crazy country where we live in the worker will lose his job for doing his duty to report a law breaker and the lawbreaker (illegal aliens) gets all the benefits and can stay here and laugh in our faces.

Interesting point, but if they are illegal, they shouldn't be receiving taxpayer money anyway. That's the real problem. It does disgust me that some of our own citizens continue to have kids despite the fact that they can't afford them. A lot of them have more kids because they know they will get more welfare money. I agree that something is definitely wrong with this picture. Depo shots might be the way to go.

To Thomas M: Oh my gosh, would you liberals please stop playing the race card?! My fiancee happens to be Hispanic, so clearly I do not have a problem with the race, but I do have a problem with welfare benefits for illegal immigrants! Maybe not all of those Hispanic women with eight kids in line at the grocery store are illegal, but chances are, a good portion of them are. I'm not assuming that because of the "color of their skin." It is just a simple fact.

Let petroleum hit $300/barrel and watch what happens. Did all you answerers know that before internal combustion engines (the original "ICE"), this whirling little blue planet never, EVER had more than a billion people? Now we have nearly 7 Billion! The entirety of that excess 6 billion relies on CHEAP oil. Not just oil. CHEAP oil!

Admittedly, there SHOULD and probably ARE substitutes. But is anyone marketing them? No. Why not? Is it because "Big Oil" doesn't care a thing for profits? Sure.

To Meg, Thomas M, and Carol: Reading your answers feels like sitting in a time-machine because only a few years ago, I thought the same way you do.

The disconcerting fact is that very few type-L illegals are at all hesitant to DEMAND tax-funded care for their babies. The Supreme Ct Case of Plyler v. Doe skewered all tax-payers by up-ending representative government.

It turned a clearly intended amendment on its ear.

Those who debated and ratified the 14th Amendment minced no words concerning the status of babies born to aliens on U.S. soil insisting repeatedly that aliens were NOT subject to United States jurisdiction. Therefore, they stated, no child born in the U.S. to an alien would be granted birthright citizenship.

Actually they are starting something like that, at least in California. It isn't where they mandate people to take birth control, instead it is where they have to get off of cash aid for at least 30 or 60 days to be able to receive benefits for that next child and I believe, but not 100% sure that they will only count up to 5 children. Also to recieve cash aid they are only able to recieve it for 5 years themselves. Their children would still be eligable, but they would no longer be able to get anything. This issue is still being worked out, because ultimatly they do not want the children to have to suffer for their parents sins. They also force you to go on a work program where you have so long to find a job, or at least do so many hours of vol. work, if not you can be denied money. If they are pregnant, they still have to do this unless a doctors note stating otherwise, but they do get 6 weeks leave after the baby is born and I believe 6 weeks before the little one is born. But the thing with this is, if they live with a partner who is stated as part of the household, only one has to complete 36-40 hours a week, or they can split those hours between them.

They should just cut off benefits to anyone who has another kid while on welfare. I don't think it's necessary to force the person onto birth control. There are plenty of people who have religious objections to birth control medication, but who have no intention of getting pregnant while on welfare and have the willpower to follow through on that. They should also require that anyone on welfare name the father of the baby, and they should chase him down for money before giving the woman taxpayers' money.

I think that you are also mistaken about illegal immigrants being on welfare. It may be that there are some legal Hispanics in your area that are having a lot of kids, and that's what you're seeing, but there's no way most illegal immigrants would risk getting caught by going into a welfare office and registering their addresses with the government. I'm not saying it never happens, but illegal immigrants usually avoid government offices at nearly all costs. On the other hand, since a lot of them are much more willing to live in cramped conditions than most Americans, they can have many kids on a lower income than Americans would. That might also be what you're seeing.

How do you know someone in front of you in the supermarket is an illegal alien? Do they tell you this? Or is it possible that the people you're talking about are legal residents who are Hispanic, and you're just making assumptions about them because of your prejudices about people with their color of skin and native language?

I think that it may be a good idea, but then I disagree with welfare anyway so I'd just like them all off. As far as the illegals you referred to that are on the system, they should get deported, it's a lot cheaper and I hate paying more in taxes.

People are allowed to have as many kids as they want. The government shouldnt be giving welfare to anyone so that argument is retarded. Nobody should be getting welfare unless you are disabled. The only kind of assistance I would approve of is medical care for the children of legal or illegal people. With that being said most hispanics are catholic and will not use birth control. I think if someone wants to have 4 kids let them have it. MY mother has 4 children. Raised all 4 of them alone without any child support or any governent assistance. It can be done. Just get a Job and take care of your family.

But...there are a number of guys that work there because if they worked anyplace else the state would take portion of paycheck for child support.

I worked at a temp/day labor place here in Seattle that let guys submit false social security numbers
to avoid paying child support.

I have heard the statement.."I am sick of paying child support" many times...and they do what they have to do to avoid it.

I would truck them to fields and orchards and have THEM pick the crops.
And live in tents and bunkhouses.
I would tell them....
"You ARE going to support your kids."
I have no sympathy for deadbeat dads.
