And help others to live their lives to the fullest? This isn't going to last forever, so why not work together to make the short time that everyone has to be excellent? Sure, you won't exist later, but everything right now is real and you are really experiencing this, isn't it a waste to just be miserable all the time?

As I believe in God I am living my life to the fullest. So, I don't know what living life to it's fullest means with no God. Working together, loving one another, putting away all malice would be the ideal. Working against each other is just FEAR and a life based on fear is misery.

If there is no God, then we have no purpose in life.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (Nobel Laureate, mathematician and philosopher)

Russell was an atheist but understood that we couldn't have a real purpose without God.

Your idea of living "life to the fullest" is an invented purpose, created to deceive yourself into thinking that you actually do have a purpose. It makes you feel good about yourself and keeps you busy so you won't think about a pointless existence. Your little clause, "help others to live their lives to the fullest" is designed to make you feel good about yourself because you can imagine others praising you.

I don't know if you're speaking about Christians, but we don't feel miserable all the time. The Christian idea is that our purpose is to seek God and to come to know Him through obeying His command to love our neighbor for where love is, there God is also.

Be happy there exist a moral God, so that you might live your life to the fullest in freedom.
Try to imagine life in a world without moral law. A world ruled by bullies and terrorist; a dog eat dog world. For most life would be without mercy, forced to serve in some slave or military camp to support or protect some vicious madman and his minions. In a Godless world everybody lives in fear and miserable all the time.
Worshiping Yahweh the God of love and morality, brings freedom, peace and security to all His followers.

But there is a God and He is a righteous God. All of Heaven and Earth declare that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that believe Him and diligently seek Him. And because there is a God keeping record of everything we say and do, we should live our life to the fullest by helping and serving others in love. By doing this and putting away our selfish wants and desires, which are vain and useless, we achieve eternal peace through Jesus Christ our Lord. This and only this, will satisfy our soul and bring us a happy and content life full of joy and hope that never ends in the presence of God for all of eternity in Heaven

Yes it is a waste if you live an unfulfilled life. Whether or not religion is the reason behind it, I can not say. Some seem to mourn their religion while others use it as a means to brighten their entire lives. I don't really care for figuring out which is which.

Edit: I hate when people use the old "atheists have no morals" argument. It is pretty pathetic (above me.) If god is really so omnipotent then why does he require our praise?

People can take it the other way

If there is no god why not manipulate and take whatever you can out of this life if there are no consequences for your actions in an afterlife
Sort of see what you can get away with and do anything it takes to make sure you have what you want

If I didnt believe in a God and I had the opportunity to take some money that nobody would really miss and not get caught, I might do it. However, because I know that stealing is wrong spiritually, I wouldnt.
