You're running. That's a good enough start.

Persevere for the moment and, as your times come down, you can then start changing what you're doing by way of other activities (training), diet, and so on.

This is the first step on a journey that only ends when you want to get off!!

Good luck

my best time is 6 flat, and that was on a 2 mile run. So i could have got like 5:30 easy i think, but that was a few years ago. The best training is to run, you can put a weight vest on if you like but dont overdo it. a 15 lb vest run maybe 3 or for times a week run more than a mile tho.

1. Don't look at your time while your running, just focus on running and breathing correctly.

2. Hydrate yourself during the day, if you're not hydrated properly running is more difficult.

3. Stretch properly before and after. If you injure yourself it will halt your training.

4. Interval training will increase your footspeed and lung capacity. Do this by forcing yourself to run at above your normal speed for a short interval and then resting by running slightly under your normal speed. Every 2 days or so, run a little longer at above your normal speed. Before you know it you'll be under an 8 min mile.

You won't reduce that time taken by that amount in the next 3 weeks. Unrealistic targets only lead to disappointment. You are only running at 6 mph at the moment which suggests you are not that athletic. But slow and steady gains will eventually bring your time down as long as you keep up the practice.

Sprints dude, you have to work your heart and your lungs to bring that time down in 3 weeks, make it hurt.
