I sing for a band, and have for many years. Stage fright is very common until you get used to singing in front of a crowd. The more you sing in front of people, the easier it gets. So just practice in front of a few people at first, and work up to the bigger crowds. I know it sounds corny, but "practice makes perfect". The more you sing in front of people, the more comfortable you will be doing it. Just try to block out the crowd, and concentrate on doing your best. Good luck, it'll get easier, I promise.

I'm an actress and a singer and I've never had stage fright, but auditions are absolutely horrible for the nerves. When I go into an audition I act like I'm not nervous; like I'm the most confident person in the world. It helps me get over my fear of auditioning and I usually do very well! I had an audition yesterday and I talked to people who were around and I didn't think about what was coming next, and that helped me to not feel nervous until right before I had to go in (because of course then I had to think about it).

You could also look over the audience. In other words look out so you can see the auditience in the bottom of your view, but they're a little blurry. That doesn't help some people though. (I'm not sure if that made sense)

And yet another is to pretend someone in the audience, or the whole audience, is your friend. Kinda like you're singing in the car with them to a song you all love.

The first one is the only one that works really well for me. But try some different things and see how they work for you.

lots of ppl say its best to picture the audience naked, so that your mind would trick you into believing that the audience should be even more nervous than you are.For me thats a bunch of crap.I get a hard on if i do that, and having a tent in your shorts for no obvious reason would add on to the nervousness.

Its quite normal to be nervous in front of a crowd. But like singing, performing in front of people requires practice. When i was with my band, we would go busking, its a great way to build confidence, plus spare change helped us to get ciggarettes. If ur able to pickup an instrument and play (the acoustic guitar is by far the simplest), or maybe get a friend to do so while u sing..it would help u a lot..oh,and interact with the ppl around you..remember,its about building confidence.

good luck

I yam sorry 2 tell you, but you will just haff 2 get used 2 it !!

Seriously, you never really get over nerves aka stage fright, you just grow around it, so to speak....you grow accustomed to it ....

The thing to do is:
**learn to sing really well ....and be *sure* you know that you do
** know all your material the way you know the back of your hand
** get used to the nerves, because some of it is a rush of extra adrenalin which you actually need to gear up to performance mode
** remember that it is *quite* normal - we all have nerves
** always look your very best

The only reason your perf. was under-par is that your "par" is not secure. Work on your technique and your voice will stay put.

best of luck to you

Keep putting yourself in positions that cause you to talk to large groups of people. Eventually, you'll get used to being in front of people and the stage fright will (not quite disappear) but will lessen considerably.

Pick out 3-5 friendly looking people around the room. Sing to them, others will think you are singing to the whole crowd. Alternate your gaze around the room as you sing. That way. you will tend to not notice so many at one time. lol

Amazingly awesome, huh???

I think you could use some humility. When you get unstuck from yourself, you won't worry so much about how you do on stage and you'll start to have fun with it.
