I would explain what aspects of school I like. For example, I like learning about history, and I like having a chance to write and express myself. I don't like the way everything is so structured and scheduled, and I don't like the way some students treat others.

You're not being general, i.e. "It sucks!" You're explaining why it sucks, but any redeeming qualities it might have :)

if you hate school you can say you would rather be doing something that is more constructive to your personality. School isn't meant for everyone, it is not the only means to obtain a happy life, and disliking school does not mean you are lazy (though laziness could be what makes you hate school).

You should answer what is there not to like? I get to hang around my friends all day, get to listen to wise people all day, get home do a bit of work, go out and play, or stay at home and play, have my prepared meal, and go to sleep. Is not like getting up in the morning working all day, coming home to cook, take care of the kids, eat and sleep. So do you like work?

You can tell the truth and say something like this: I go to school because I am required to go. It is hard work so naturally I would prefer to play.

my response, "it's kicking my bum"

Most people don't like to hear negative responses, so you could be like, "I'm really enjoying art (or gym, or talking to people, or making friends)". Or just say, "I'm not really feeling it. Don't you find that everything is more difficult this year (or the teachers are stupid -especially that stupid math teacher who keeps calling on me to answer questions"
