i would agree that its probably i high percentage of christians .. also i would say that it kinda goes against the idea that it has somthing to do with education since i would imagine the US does not rank that low in how educated its population is ... i like to think of it as there are more people that like to leave possibilities open and i think just accepting evolution as the facts doesnt show i high degree of critical thinking or open mindedness but just a readiness to accept anything that someone is taught through one channel which i think limits the ability to explor other possibilities ..

I think it is because the US is better informed about the hoaxes that evolution scientists tried to scam people with and that is because of the advances made in science, the so called evidences were fakes or not evidence at all. Any and all intelligent people know now that the theory does not work as was speculated by Darwin. There is evidence for micro-evolution but not one shred of evidence for macro-evolution. Even evolutionists are having to face the facts of intelligent design. No one looks at a skyscraper and asks how many earthquakes did it take to make that building because it is obvious to any honest thinking person, that it had to have a designer. Our DNA is much more complex than any skyscraper, let alone our entire molecular structure. It is also common knowledge that evolutionists are desparately hanging onto the theory, not because of any actual scientific evidence, but because they refuse to accept the possibility of a God, who is the creator, because they then would have to account for their actions in life and that the possibility of a real judgement for how they lived their lives really scares them. I hope all believers remember to pray for these people to have their eyes opened to see the real Truth, because the Truth is out there.

Maybe because it is still a theory with some really really big holes in it.

I think you can make a survey say whatever you want it to say by asking the question in a certain way

for example

I could ask do you believe that evolution is a reasonable and rational explanation for how life began on earth
or
do you believe that evolution is how life began on earth

and the same person can answer yes to the first question but no to the second

if I took the first question I might get a higher percentage and can claim a bigger number accepts evolution or I can take the 2nd question which probably would have a lower number of yes answers and claim to have a lower percentage of people that believe in evolution

it is all about how you ask a question

LOL. Theory of evolution is a theory. It may be correct or may be incorrect.
What is the influence of percentage of adults accepting(believing) this theory on its correctness? Nothing.
If any day this theory is proved scientifically beyond doubt, then, it will be called a scientific law. Until then, it will remain as a theory. A theory can not be changed to a law by popular votes. What is your problem!

Just out of curiosity, why does it matter? I asked this question on another forum and never got a good answer. How does knowledge of evolution affect your daily life in any way? Does the knowledge that your distant ancestors might have been slime molds, or whatever, help you get a better job, or help you find a better route to work, or help you pick the best investment? Sounds like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Just something to ponder, while you are sitting there feeling superior as a pseudo intellectual with a head full of useless trivia.

Because America was founded on Christianity. Not many people accept the theory of evolution anyway, whether they have a religion or no religion at all. Many people think it's a stupid concept. I personally believe that the theory of evolution only provokes more questions rather than answering them. There are far too many holes in the theory. Christianity answers all questions about the origin of everything. Besides any guy who thinks we descended from monkeys and primates, shouldn't really be taken seriously anyway.

Lack of good science programs in public schools, mostly due to religious opposition. There is a significant number of Christian zealots in this country who have been duped into believing that evolution is a threat to their religion.

I have yet to meet somebody who both says "I don't believe in evolution" and could show an understanding of the most basic concepts of it. When you see people who say ridiculous lines like "It's just a theory" or regurgitate some story they read on a creationist website, you know they haven't touched a book on the subject. So ultimately I'd say it's due to that: having an incorrect idea on what exactly evolution is and what it proposes.

And to HistoryHeart: even if we assume the US was founded on Christianity (and it wasn't), there are plenty of Christians who have no problems accepting evolution.

I would love to know which country was below the US.

But people here don't accept the facts of evolution because they are taught at church that it's "just a theory".

Because America is primarily a Christian country, and the majority of Christians (at least the ones I know) scoff at the idea of evolution.

Because in 2001 a skull resembling current humans dated within 100 to 500 years to the oldest know of a once believed ancestor of ours was discovered. Witch meant that we coexisted with what we considered an ancestor, rather a different species, and since then the scientific community has down play it and by 2004 it was admitted that the skull dated back to around that time but not until mid 2007 this was acknowledged, but again down played by the scientific community. That means that when the survey was done in the US people that were surveyed had heard or come in contact with this fact.
