Well religion has a big impact on my life in the real world. I live in a city where there is a diverse range of cultures and beliefs which has a massive impact on me.
In some areas I am greeted with curses or being spat at because one extremist group thinks I dress like a whore (which I don't).
In other areas of the city, people of another religion whisper and point because they don't like the man I'm with.
A few blocks away a girl stabbed her father and sister to death during a psychotic episode - she had schizophrenia and her Scientologist parents refused to allow her to take her medication.
I was raised in a cult, and that has left me with mental and emotional scars.
We have riots in this city over religion.
Not a single day goes by without some religion having an impact on my life. It is unavoidable. Rather ironic considering I am an atheist.
I come to R&S because I want to understand these religions, express my beliefs so others can understand them and warn people about the dangers of various cults.
It would be nice, if by walking away from my computer, I could avoid all the problems I mentioned earlier. But it doesn't work that way, so I meet it head on
Lastly, who the heck said atheists can't be Spiritual? Since when is Spirituality intrinsically linked to religion? It's not. I am Spiritual, I have Spiritual beliefs which govern my day to day life. I believe that there are massive portions of our Universe that may not be able to be understood or explained purely through science. For me, Spirituality encompasses my morals (yes atheists CAN have morals!), my relationships with others and life in general.
So, sorry to anyone who takes offense to my being here, but this is a public forum and I have as much right as any Christian, Muslim, Jew, Pagan etc to be here.

Religion is a facinating topic. There actually are some really great and profound questions on here. I learn a little more about different religions everyday. Its also a great place for intelligent debate... if you can find someone decent to debate with.

I don't know if you got the memo or not, but Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on Religion nor Spirituality. If that were the case, this would be the "Christianity" Section.

Also... *drink*

I'd like to take the time to tell you that you are a VERY narrow and naive person who needs to step outside their bubble and see exactly how narrow and naive they truly are.

You see, Christianity is only one of the THOUSANDS of religions that exist. It is no more or less valid than paganism, Islam, Judaism, Satanism, Humanism, Buddhism... the list goes on. My point is that it's downright arrogant to believe that you and you alone are right.

And I suppose you also bash the commoners for going onto the royalty section, and all the non-birds on the birds section. And you probably hate all those non-deities and non-pantheons on the mythology and folklore section.

Simple. I have a right to be. It is always interesting to see what the "others" are thinking. You are what you were brought up to be. You made no decision to be a "Christian" I was also brought up to be Christian. When I became an adult, I rejected the entire mess. Too many contradictions, too many scandals, too many rip offs. The world is old. Real old. Way older than any Bible says. The Bible is a story book. You believe as you wish, but quit trying to make everyone else a part of your little piece of glory.

So christianity is the only religion? People who believe in Zeus have no place here? How about people that just believe in the human spirit? It is called Religion and SPIRITUALITY, not Jesus and Christianity. And before you go off on another tangent, yes, you can believe in spirituality and not a god.

Because there are over 2,000 gods and Christianity doesn't have a monopoly over spirituality or religious debate.

I'm interested in something called the separation of church and state and the values put forth in the Enlightenment. Not to mention the scientific method, which some religions tend to devalue.

Let the drinks roll, baby! I'll take a margarita. Shaken, not stirred. Which drink would you like? I suggest a virgin.

You are a christian, but this is not a christian site. This is a site for all who have an interest in questions and answers about religion (not just your's) and spirituality.

As such, atheists (people who do not believe in gods) have answers to religious and spritual questions.

Have a good day.

I am a buddhist with atheist beliefs, Religion and spirituality are not christ and abraham's writings of god...There are many religions...Christians seem to think this is their little playground but they need to remember there are over 1000 religions that claim to be the one and only true religion...Atheists are here because of their desire to spread the word of truth in order to promote love and respect towards all people no matter what cloud surfer they worship.

you know there are many gods so you have to be more specific and this question has been asked A LOT. *drinks cold crisp apple juice* Where does it read it's christians only? not even in fine print does it read for christians only... While we are at it why do Christians believe in god saving them from illnesses but end up visiting a hospital and clinics? Don't you know you are making your dog (god) angry when you inject science into yourself, via pill, injection from a needle even surgery and more. LOL

"There is only one God and Jesus is God's Son."

proof please no bible scriptures. lol

How about people who believe in Muhammed and Allah? Or Buddha and his system of thought?

Or perhaps spirituality issues might actually include logical thought about such matters as ethics and morals. Non-religious folks might actually have something to add in that arena. Or answering questions about why evolution makes more sense logically and scientifically than creation. Or having [sometimes] intelligent discourse about matters of the unknown and unknowable.
