I was reading in People magazine about this guy that shoots cats that are about to eat a bird.

Whether it's stray, feral or owned by someone else.

Do you think this is wrong or ok? Why or why not?

The guy says he's trying to protect the bird population.

Of course it is wrong!

Cats have been eating birds for thousands of years and that guy thinks he can save the world by shooting cats for that?

How would he like it if someone went to shoot him right as he was about to eat roast meat of a cow??

OOOoh that makes me mad.

On top of all that though, he has no right to kill someone else's cat.

It's terrible. I have cats and I feed birds. I put the feeders up high enough that the cats can't just jump up and take them off the feeders. Also, there aren't any bushes the cats can hide under to sneak up and catch them while they are on the ground.

The whole idea of natural selection is that the animals who survive predators have some advantage over the animals that get eaten and they pass it on to their offspring who also survive. When a bird cannot move quick enough to get away from my fat and lazy cats, they may have something wrong with them. Anyway, it's just wrong to kill an animal that is only following it's own nature. That would be like killing a dog because it barked at a stranger. This guy doesn't live in Cherryville, NC does he? He sounds like someone I know and dislike.

it is totally wrong. This man should find the owners and have them arrested for letting their cats run free. If a dag owner didi that they would lose their animal. If it is stray or feral cat he should call animal control so they can come out in about an hour or two and maybe find the cat and take it away after it has killed a few birds that where just minding their own business and just asking to be killed and eaten. Yes, the man is definately the monster in this story.

What about the cat population?!? There are plenty of birds. So every time this guy eats meat, someone should be standing there with a shot gun protecting the animals... it's all part of the life cycle. An animal should not be killed for reacting upon it's instincts!!!

Ah, the same genius logic that compelled us to shoot all the wolves we could find to save the deer, only to realise later "Oh ****! Overpopulation is causing the deer to die and the rest of the environment to go haywire! And now the wolves are almost extinct! OUR BAD."

Has it not occurred to this guy that with humans around, just about all the other natural predators are gone and cats are just about the only things left? I might have some pity for some endangered bird species, but even then the solution is to require owners to bell their cats (or better yet, keep them indoors), not KILL the cats. What an utter loon.

Considering that when teens run around shooting random animals with bb guns they get in a mountain of trouble, I can't see this guy getting away with it just because he has some lofty morals. Does he go to farms and shoot at people when they go out to slaughter a chicken or pig? Animal cops, arrest this guy, please!

Yes it is wrong because he is killing somebodys pet. Feral cats are usually the result of folk not caring for their pets or not having them fixed. Feral cats are a problem but to shoot them is not the way because its mean and it may be mistaken for someones loved pet. Some one stole my Russian blue and it left me devastated. He was part of our family

Yes I think it's wrong. It's natural for cats to prey on birds. The man needs to grow up and understand that. Too bad the cat isn't big enough to prey on the ignorant human, eh? lol

i think that if its a personal pet bird, then your helping your bird. but if the bird is dead and what not, dont shoot the cats! thats wrong and i think hes just a lonely man that doesnt have anything better to do. im not a cat person, but seriously if you dont have a good reason to do something like that. DONT

Not only wrong, but, depending upon where he lives, also illegal. Hope someone catches up with him. As sad as I feel when a bird is caught by a cat - any kind of cat - the feline instinct impels them to hunt. They don't deserve to be killed for doing what comes naturally to them.

hell no !that cat is just following it's natural instincts and for the cat to have to face death for doing what it was designed to do which is hunt is an abomination and that guy should either learn the nature of the wild or get his birds in some cages
