Isn't asking this alleged god for this faith, actually acknowledging having faith that he exists? For who would ask something of someone who does not exist?

Does this sound circular to anyone else?

Why not ask god for evidence that he/she/it exists? That would be more useful than believing in something on the basis of the willingness to believe without proof (faith), wouldn't it?

But that would stop the fairy tales.

No need of asking. It is your own personal will to have faith in God.

You don't have to ask Him. But faith is a blessing, and all blessings, by definition, are from God. So if you have faith, or desperation, or curiosity, or whatever, to ask Him for faith, you are already blessed at least a little bit. So instead of wrapping yourself up in questions, why don't you just ASK HIM?

You do not have to ASK God for faith. He GIVES every man a measure of faith and waits to see if you will multiply it.

Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Have you multiplied YOUR faith?

Indeed. Faith is not a choice or something you have to work to obtain- you either believe something or you don't. It's that simple.

God does not allow us to know for sure (through science) if he exists on purpose because it is a test.

There is evidence though. It is called the Bible. Pray and you will feel the Holy Spirit.

God will not give you that faith!

It has to come from you...then God will nurture that faith so that you can withstand temptations.
